17x7 compatibility and tire size?

I'm looking at picking up a set of 17x7 With 35 Off Set. It is a 5x112 and should fit on my 2001 Passat 1.8T. I was reading the sticky in this forum and it recommended 17x7.5 for the Passat. These are lightweight rims and I'm looking for some good performance tires. The guide also says 225/45-17 would be the right fit for a 17x7.5, is this true for a 17x7?

Will these work on my car? and where is a good place to look for tires?

Sorry Troy, but I just won the bid on the wheels. Didn't know there was a B5er interested in the wheels. Were you bidding?

V-Mann - I got them on Ebay, ICW DV-8's for $504 after shipping. Not sure on the weight.

I<3myW8 - The lettering are stickers that can be removed (which I definitely plan to :thumbdow: ).

I'll have picture up after they're mounted on my '02 silverstone.

Wheels

I contacted the seller on these wheels. I was wondering that perhaps we might get a group buy going if enough folks liked them. He indicated that shipped to me I could pick up 40 wheels for $3600.00US. That is not too bad deal. Of course if we were to do a GB then there would be shipping from me to you. (and I have no idea what that would be). Anyway just a thought.

Soo. DTOX, I'm curious as to once you get the wheels, how good a deal they really are. Lets us know would ya.

smothers - If you get the GB going, that would definitely be a good deal. Hopefully I can get a credit back on the price I paid for them, when I post some pics and get some interest going. They should be arriving soon.

vaporinc - I checked the tracking info and it says that the weight for each is 15 lbs! I think that seems too light.

I'll post pics as soon as I get them.

If those are really 15lbs a wheel then    I think I might be getting some. Thats probably not correct but who knows. Put them on a scale and let us know when you get them.

Well good news/bad news. Good news is that I got the wheels and they weigh in at ~14.7lbs each. Bad news is that the wheels require a tuner lug bolt kit to convert the passat's 14mm studs to 12mm.

Has anyone else found this to be a problem with mounting wheels on their B5??? :???:

Anyways, the kit should be here by end of week. I hope to have pictures up next week.

14.7 lbs   I did some checking and they are availabe in 18"s also. The group price above is $90 a wheel (17") I wonder if we could get 18s for 100 or 110. Probably wouldn't weigh much more than 16 or 17 lbs if that. I can't weght to see these on your car.

The tuner lug bolt thats just a longer bolt correct?

Also, can you get those stickers off?

This could be one hell of a deal. 360 for 4 wheels or (maybe) 440 for 4 18" wheels and they're lextremely light weight.

Yeah, I finally got them on (it was a painful process). The people at BigO Tires has only one guy that supplies them with accessories. Unfortunately this guy has been very flaky and was 2 weeks late in delivery. Anyways they orders the stud conversion kit and tuner lug bolts from somebody else and the wheels are finally mounted.

The wheels look really nice, very sporty. I hope to have pics up this weekend after a nice wash!

I bought those wheels on Ebay and sent them back. I was sold the conversion kit and tuner lugs from a sales rep for a 2004 Passat. On the same day before the package came I called some tire places to get them installed and no one would install the rims. They all said the conversion kit was garbage, and would not accept any responsibility thereafter installation. Two places both told me the car may experience tracking problems and wheel shimmy after a while and advised me to buy only Hub Centric wheels. I was very disappointed b/c those wheels are nice.
