My 95 Passat GLX vr6 has it's moments where it is running great and then all of a sudden it shudders at idle shaking the entire car and has no power. The other day it got so bad it started to smell like something was burning so I pulled over, pooped the hood and could see some puffs of smoke coming from the rear of the engine compartment. I could not see anything until I crawled under the car and saw the Catalytic Converter was glowing red. Lit up the ground under the car. Myt wife has told me that it has been hard starting lately as well. I am going to install a new Cat from Magnaflow, just a Universal Fit cat that I will put the O2 sensor bung into. I am also gonna order a cam postion sensor but first thing I need to do is find out where the cam position sensor is and because there is only an O2 sensor in front of the cat can I simply run a piece of pipe in it's stead and install the O2 sensor in the pipe? Any help is greatly apprecited as this car is new to us. like 3 weeks new to us so I am hating it right about now.
