I just wanted to say hello to every one. I'm new to the b5 world, but not to VW. I bought a 98 b5 with a broken timing belt a month ago for $600. It has 94k miles on it. After working on it in my spare time over the last month I finally brought it home today. The head cost me $400 to have redone. It had all but 3 bent valves. With my gasket set and misc stuff, I'm guessing I have around $550 in it. When I got it it was already in the service mode, so putting it back together was a challenge. I got a couple of small containers with all the bolts in them. I have some body work ahead of me. The left rear door and quarter have some damage. The ABS light is on and the brake light is flashing. I'm not sure how to tell if the turbo is working. So if any body can enlighten me that would be great! I have to get the radio code from the dealer.:wrench:

welcome! not sure about your turbo. listen to it. if it makes a lot of unusual noise replace it. as for the abs and brake light, when i bought my 98 i also had this problem. you need to have someone with vagcom scan it and if you get no communication it is highly likely the problem. if that is the case remove it and have it repaired. i went through cheap-abs.com to get mine done. i believe the user on here is named sidespar. good luck!
