Next target.. "Parking for Expectant Mothers"
Up here it's usually for 'expectant mothers and mothers with children'.

I'll typically avoid parking there cuz knowing how uncomfortable my ex was in carrying around an extra 40lbs of water doesn't make a comfortable walk to the front door.

But if I have my daughter with me, I park there no problem.

If it's xmas shopping time, all bets are off. If it's not designated handicapped parking, it's fair game, IMO.

What they should really have is a parking for someone who really needs to take a pee quickly spot. Perhaps they could have an outdoor toilet next to the spot? As for the hybrid sign that's an easy solution.
Step 1: Steel the badges off of the prius next to you and gorilla glue it onto your trunk. (badgeless passats are way played out anyways)
Step 2: steal the hybrids only sign and sell it on ebay.

Not only have you recouped the cost of having to take time to deal with this bs, you have also become somewhat of a hero for SUV drivers everywhere. Think of yourself as the US version of the Angle Grinder Man.

haha, i just tend to ignore these signs. then again, it guarantees me free parking every time i go to best buy EVEN AT X-MASS TIME!

although, the signs they have are "efficient vehicle parking only" and are 1) not legally applicable. 2) requires a fine line to be drawn ans specified as to what is efficient and not and most importantly 3) who says my v6 isn't efficient when it's getting 24 mpg

I don't think it's a "heads up the ass" policy at all. Environmental concern is part of Ikea's marketing. I don't own a hybrid, but I think rewarding customers for their environmental conscientiousness is not wrong in any way. I vote Republican, but I think parking a truck and idleing it in one of those spots is pointless vigilantism. Why would you waste gas for that? No one in the store cares. Some executive that doesn't live in your state is probably the one that approves the signs in the first place. I hope in all honesty that they tow your car. It's private property and well within their right to do that unless doind so interferes with a law, and I doubt it does.

:violin: come on man.. all hybrids (at least in Canada) are totally pointless and their initial cost increase outweighs their gains. "It can be assumed that Canadian hybrid car owners are either ignorant to the costs of driving a hybrid or are wealthy and are trying to maintain a social image while trying to lessen their personal environmental impact." (right out of my essay :D)

they're smug. go watch southpark for the referance :p

also, i would like to point out the number of parts that fail at about 65 thousand miles, and the costs to repair them. the transmissions take a huge sh*t at that mileage due to the planetary gearset design meshing two engine units.

yea i posted a south park commentary link to the epsiode :) :p it was hilarious

The Hybrid only parking is probably to gain points for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification for green buildings. We have this at my office. I know someone with an E80 Avalance that thinks he qualifies.
