Performance mods for your car are expensive, as you point out. Some people have installed superchargers on the V6, but they're expensive and generally require tranny upgrades as well if you have a tiptronic. Having said that, you can get a few ponies out of an exhaust upgrade, and the suspension has lots of room for improvement. Welcome to the club!

 

Is the V6 with tiptronic considered slow? I mean if I was looking to just burn a couple of local ricers in their mom's honda would I be alright with simple exhaust, possibly cold air intake? What simple mods could you reccommend.

 

No it is not slow comparably. However, talk like this will get you banned very quickly.

I'm with yea "drive b5", i have a b5.5 manual v6 and looking to do the same. I'm looking for a catback exhaust and changing the intake, since its a pain to change the filter in the stock airbox.

 

lose the stock resonator and get a magna flow muffler and a tiny resonator with "fingers" in it (for drone )
that's that.
also the car has a cold air intake from the factory.
there is a chip for sale in the classifieds for it for $200
other than that, that's it.
unless you go how I did.

 

Where could i buy an exhaust system for the v6 GLX. everywhere I call or look, they say they do not carry it. Or sometimes they will say it will only fit the 1.8t.

 

How much would a magnaflow muffler run that fits on the b5.5

 

all i had changed was from the resonator back.I will have more work done in the future as the car still needs to breath a bit better.
Just doing what I had done gave me a lot more wheel spin in first..so it does breathe better after doing it.

What kind of sound did your car produce from just replacing the resonator back? I'm guessing deep but not obnoxious? I mean if you were satasfied with the results I find no need to buy whole exhaust system, but rather just do what you did.

 

when i first bought my car ( 2000 v6 4motion ) i didn't know much about b5 passats. i wanted the v6 for more power. after some reading i found out that the 1.8t has more capabilities for power, that being said i'm almost glad i have a v6 now. that way i won't be tempted to upgrade turbo's etc because it seems alot of people have issues getting the tuning just right. but that's just me haha

I did not do mine for sound, did it so it can breathe.
I don't know what mine sounds like(only hear it from inside) but one of the guys in the Mopar club I hang with said my car sounds great.

 

I am also looking for some breathing room, but I've always liked a deeper sound in a car. That would be perfect, a sound noticeable but not obnoxious. Not to mention the product you gave me a link to is a price i like. :thumbup:

 

2.8 isn't a "quick" motor. Newer japanese v6s will eat it for lunch. Still, a prfectly adequate motor with a nice torque curve. Just nothing overwhelming..

 

I have nothing bad to say about the 2.8L it is a super reliable motor and has been a lot less maintenance than my 1.8T in the A4 (but I have a bunch of turbo work on it). Only thing I ever had to do was valve cover gaskets and replace the PVC system which only took me about 4 or 5 hours.

They made the W8 and S4 to compete with the more powerful cars. The V6 does just what it's designed to do.... provide enough power without straining the motor and it does a super job at it.
