Window Fogging... Can't make it stop

So, I am sick and tired of driving around in midwinter with the A/C on "blowing heat of course" to get rid of the moisture in my car. If I just turn on the regular heat all the windows fog up. WTF... I have cleaned the windows with all sorts of cleaners trying to make them not fog. Nothing is working. I stopped using air freshners thinking it could be the "juice" they let off.

Here is the kicker... My cabin filter has a small rip in it. "like the size of a pencil". Could this be my problem?

TIA!!!

I have not had any problem with window fogging this winter in our variant, and I don't run the A/C at all (well, once a week for 10 minutes to keep the seals lubed). I do keep the recirc button disabled, and I have dumped the water out of my monster mats every now and then, when I've tracked in a ton of snow.

You aren't, by any chance, getting a sweet smell in your car when you run the heat, are you? That would signal a leak in your heater core, which creates a b!tch of a fogged window problem. Nah, I guess since your A/C is clearing it, it's not that (eh, I'd check my coolant level anyway, to be sure).

I'd also check all around the car and see if you have any water pooling. Look in and feel the carpet in the back seat footwells, look in the trunk (spare tire well), and in the passenger front footwell. You want to make sure that you don't have any standing water that's causing this.

The back footwells have been a leak source for some members. And the A/C drainage line might be blocked, letting condensate water leak into the front passenger area.

If this all checks out, the first nice day, I would pull all the mats out of the car and let everything dry out. 'Course, you're in Oregon where it's probably tons more humid than it's been here in the East this winter (cold, cold, cold this year!), so maybe it's something you just gotta live with. Any other Northwest members with this problem?

Re: Window Fogging... Can't make it stop (RobNick)

I have no problems here in humid NJ this winter except when it rains, and its above 40 and below 60, very odd indeed. But it certainly isn't constant... I use exterior air, no AC nor recirc - I think the manual suggested closing one of the middle vents, to force incoming air to the windows, but I could be remembering that wrong

I don't recall at what temperature BELOW it stops doing this but...
the A/C runs when defrost is selected, whether the switch is depressed or not.
Now that I think about it, it is below 32 degrees or so.
Unite - is your a/c compressor engaging when in defrost?

Don't by the commercial products!Just smear three equally spaced dabs of shaving cream all over the inside of the windshield. Buff off the shaving cream with a terry cloth towel until the windshield is crystal clear. One can use dishwashing detergent as well. Of course, this doesn't solve the underlying problem, if there is one.

I haven't read the articles suggested above, so I may be rehashing stuff they already said. The Fog-X stuff is useless, it really doesn't help and in some cases can leave hazing or other opticle wierdness on the glass. Also, if you don't like it, it's a pain to get off.

I find the best method to reducing the fogging is too keep the windows clean. Use a quality cleaner like Stoners Invisible Glass or Eagle One 20/20 which leave very little residue. For some reason in the passat though, the windows seem to need cleaning after 2 weeks. It gets to be a pain cleaning when it's cold out.

Re: Window Fogging... Can't make it stop (mpauly)

Hey okay i got a free answer to this... however i haven't tried it... i only used this product for the rain part not the fog part. here is the link http://www.2010products.com/sampleorder.html Scroll down to the Fog Gone and get a sample order of that and try it. If it works as good as the Rain Slick that I got then it should help. I use rain slick on my car and my parents car its sooo fun to watch the water just slide alway when you are speeding on the freeway. Hey its a free sample mind as well give it a shot... just gotta wait two weeks for them to deliever it to you
