Where to buy G12 coolant?

It's Friday night of a 3 day weekend. Every dealer within 200 miles is closed for the next 3 days, and I need coolant. Does ANYONE other than the dealer sell ANYTHING that will work in a passat and be compatible with the G12 that's already in the system?

A) why, I didn't seat an o-ring in the temp sender that I replaced well, and it spewed it all over (have MAYBE 1/4 left) so I need more than just water

B) I'd love to ask a VW dealer, none in the state of Colorado are open until TUESDAY.

I don't know where you can get some, but I was just at Stevens Creek here in California and they wanted $21 for a gallon of the stuff. $13 CAN - thats like a nickel, eh? Talk about markup.

If you look in the manual, it says that G12 is an additive, isn't it just added to water to make it so that the water won't freeze. That plus to inhibit rust.

Unfortunatly the dealer is the only place to get the special coolant. I have found that using GM's orange coolant is pretty well to top it off a little. Its at AutoZone/AdvancedAuto in a grey 1gal jug. HTH.

you will F*** yourself in the long run by doing that......it turns into clumps elsewhere in the cooling system.....and trust me...i wanted to know what happened, so i put G12 in a bottle with the orange crap....and some green later....nasty....

also, it wont kill you to run PURE water in the entire system for WEEKS provided it wont freeze over.....

i use 2 liters of G12/G11 in the entire cooling system...the rest is distilled water......

it makes for about a 40/60 mix....

just add water, and worry about something else that could break :)

Rian_Colorado - If you're really desperate, I have a gallon I bought yesterday. Plan was to use it to replace any I lost when I change the water temperature sending unit. I'm Littleton, but I'm sure there's a way to get it to you. Running straight water (and possibly some Water Wetter) over the weekend shouldn't hurt anything.

Rian, I said three times to get the oring!! ;)

Just use water. Don't worry about it until you can get to the dealer. I wouldn't even bother with WaterWetter. Haul off to the grocery, grab some distilled water, and go for it.

AND - if you can't get to the grocery, the amount of minerals in tap water is not going to kill the engine. It won't even notice. If you were racing the car and charging and draining very hard tap water on a monthly basis, then you would notice some build up after a year or so. But one 3/4 charge in a Passat that gets drained out after a few days of driving the kids around will be undetectable even to the best electron microscope, even one with EDAX.

Thanks Kathy :)

I actually did get the O-ring, and use it. I just put it ON the sensor, instead of IN The connector, and it didn't seat the way it was suppose to. After driving around the block I had a mild fountain effect under the hood :)

Sweet talked a sales guy at a dealer to raiding the parts department for me. 20$ a bottle for this stuff is WAY too much, but what else am I gonna do! all in all it works, and I'm happy! :) thanks for the help all
