There have been threads on favorite secret Passat features, favorite things about Passats, so how about a thread about the most annoying or frustrating thing about your Passat? (Sorry if this has been done before).

I bought my B5 used, and have only put around 3k on it so far (72k total miles). But, I find the radio and HVAC controls to be annoying small. I also hate the lack of a sun visor extension (fixed on later models I hear). I'm also frustrated with the various creaks and groans I hear. The car is only a 2001 and should not sound like an old man. I've had no major mechanical probelms so far, so no complaints there.

How about you?

1) Owners that bitch about having to use premium fuel. While other manufacturers have designed their competing cars to run on camel piss get over the fact your car needs premium fuel. :poke:

2) Worthless cup holders. Even the one that fits in the armrest, it gets in the way when there is something in it.

3) It is not a stick .

4) It is not a variant.

No major gripes here...

Having to buy super-expensive premium fuel!
Yes... because that extra 84 bucks a year that you will save is EXTREMELY important... btw, even if your car doesn't REQUIRE 91-93 octane... you WILL experiance a performance gain in using it. (more HP, better gas milage, lower fuel costs overall)

This has been addressed many times... you do NOT save money by using premium fuel. If I drove a 2.slow jetta I would still put in premium, only the best for my car

Synthetic oil every 3500-4000 miles
91 Octane ONLY
Fuel injector cleaner after every oil change
Washing every week
Waxing every 3 months

2nd Gear is hard to engage when cold.
Clutch engaging too high.
Rattle in drivers door as you drive. :nervous:
15" stock wheels.
No real fogs. :suspicio:

.... but there is alot more that I like about it ....

Completely useless cup holders (won't even keep the kid's sippy cups upright).

Nose heavy. Cornering is done in one of three ways: Slight understeer, Major understeer, Dangerous understeer. This behaviour always leads to wearing out the outside shoulder of the tire prior to the rest of it.

Other than that, can't complain. The car's been dependable, looks great after 5 years (inside and out), is economical to run (it does actually run on 89 octane just fine - with 87 the car is sluggish as hell), it's very safe (important when it's the daily driver for the wife and 2 kids), and it is fun when driven up to 6/10ths (after that, see paragraph 2 above).

The nine quarts of synthetic oil required for oil change intervals on a W8 engine. At $5 a pop equals $45 plus filter, not to mention the labor if you don't do it yourself. I am also bothered by the DRL's arangement that doesn't include the tailights. At dusk, since my headlights are always on, I sometimes don't recognize the fact that my instrument lights are not lit and forget to turn my headlight switch to on and end up driving without tailight after sunset. Of course when it really gets dark I realize what I have to do. Lastly, the rear hatch locking every time it is closed is not one of my favorite things. Other than that, to date, this powerful wagon is a great value and a fun car to drive. I can't think of any engine enhancing or handling options one would want to add to a W8 with sport suspension. :D

I don't have any major gripes... maybe the crapy conti tires that came on it. I don't have any more creaks. I had some in the dash but they went away.

Oh, I do have one gripe.. the stock suspension SUCKS!!!!! Toooo soft.

PS: I love my B5.5 cup holders :)
