I believe that taking it to redline before shifting will not yield the fastest acceleration.

 

used to shift near/at redline, then i stopped being dumb.

How do you determine when to shift for maximum acceleration?
I have a V6 B5, with COAM, and no resonator. I just felt like saying that even though they probably have no bearing on my cars performance. -_-;;

 

I usually shift around 3500 to 4000 RPMS. If I needto I will run it to redline, as I find this extended running in gear usually puts me out front. It depends on the reason.

If I need to tootle, I'll shift around 2500-3000 RPMS.

Usually I'm not WOT.

But when I am....

No, I have a GIAC chip so I am making a little bit more boost than stock so a higher shift makes more sense. When I was stock(on the test drive :lol: ) I shifted it at like 5250rpm.

Even with the chip you should shift earlier than redline....... don't worry, I'm the dumb one.

Well josh, i meant running through the gears, not around the town driving. hahah

Look at my dynochart on my profile, see what happens to the fueling after 5500 rpm!

 

Vag-com guys, check out the "Block-5" spreadsheet posted at ross-tech... supposely these are the "optomized" shift points for the car. (Data supports shifting in the 5500-6000 range).

I reccomend it highly, I didn't install it so I wouldn't know the difficulty of it. Mine was like 400 something dollars.

4800 with my APR chip...max I've ever taken the needle to is 5900 trying to pass someone.

Whenever im racing in town or on the track i shift at 7100-7200

 

i believe thats out of your power range...dyno it and look at the power curve

 

Call me whatcha like but 3500. Getting the best fuel mileage EVER on this tank (using premie gas by the way).

Good, I am not the only one. And like I said, I am getting the best gas milegae ever on this tank. Plus I have now started tip shifting every time I drive rather than occasionally.

I doubt you guys shift at 3500 when you "get on it".

hell, i shift at 3k normally.

 

That's what I love about this car is you can easily get to 60 mph without even thinking. Sometimes I drive thinking I'm accelerating at a slow, easy pace... and the next thing I know I'm at 60. It does kinda make me wish that our gear ratios were a little different, but hey, if I wanted a sports car I should've bought one.
