I have a 05 vw passat wagon 1.8T and my passenger headlight took a dump literally. Its like the insides just dropped and the light beam is aimed straight to the floor. So i brought a used set from ebay and i see the projector is not straight, you can move and position it with your finger. The ebay ones are still better then the old ones because at least its the projector thats moving around. There is something wrong with the new headlight right and its not just me being paranoid???

The internal adjusters in the headlights work on nylon screws that get brittle with age. Eventually, the screw crumbles or pops loose, and the internal assembly flops loose. Usually, it winds up pointing at the ground. It pretty much happens to all of them. You can try opening the headlight and re-connecting or replacing it, but getting the headlight apart isn't easy - it's heat-sealed with a tar-like substance. After fiddling a while, I just bought new headlights.

Opinions vary. OEM headlights are expensive, and most cheap replacements are just that, cheap. A lot of people have spent way more time than I was willing to spend fixing broken ones, so I guess it depends on your time/money balance. BTW, Hella is the VW OEM, so sometimes you can get Hella for less than "Genuine VW" without loss of quality. Failing that, Depo brand is decent and inexpensive.
