I saw there is a TV Tuner or other input device for the MFD.
Link

But, where does this plug in to the MFD? Does it replace the CD changer plug? If so, how do you get Cd Changer abilities with this adapter?
Finally, how do you use the inputed item (TV,DVD,X-box) to play on the MFD? I don't see a button on the unit for this.

CAN ANYONE HELP? I don't want to get the unit unless, I can view a external inputed unit on the monitor.

It will be worth it when I am done with what I have planned.

But, I don't want to lose the CD changer capability if that is the only way I can play CDs with the unit.

There's an unused plug on the back of the MFD. Plugs in there. YOu keep the CD changer. Lemme know what you find. I'm dying for one of these but haven't found a US source

I wanna wire in a back up cam or something. If I can watch seinfeld episodes on my Axim, I can watch them on the MFD LOL.

IIRC in the inputs screen on the MFD there is Aux1 and Aux 2 The Tuner becomes one or both of those

MFD purcase

I want to replace the DD Monsoon head unit with a MFD for my 2003 Passat. Is it fully compatible with the Monsoon system? I understand that additional plugs & adaptors might be needed. Also, since the MFD has a built-in Amp., is it still possible to use the external Amp. that came with the car? Would it still work with the audio control buttons which built into the steering wheel? But most of all, how do I get one?

Help!!!

OCTICK,

I found this link on vortex for a plug and play A/V interface specifically for Audi/VW navigation systems. Rather pricey, but it may be what you're looking for. Looks like it'll be available on October 13th.

That is expensive, but looks good for those who don't have some stuff already.
I already have a A/V Switch. I just need A/V input for my Navi. I like the cleaniness of the system.

silverstone03,
It should work fine. I don't know if the steering wheel controls will work since no one with 2003 has it. I have seen mixed replies. 2001.5 controls work, 2002 controls don't. The only thing you need for sure that I don't is a specific harness. But, I am sure it will be included if and when you purchase one.

I will let you guys know if I find or hear an update.

I am trying to source the Dietz A/V input, but now that website says it only supports PAL. What is PAL? And why doesn't it matter what type of A/V type it is?
I would think it just changes the conventional Video, Left Audio, Right Audio to the VW/Audi plug. I am confused. :???:

Pal is the TV system. You guys in the US have NTSC (that may sound you), and here in Europe most of the countries use PAL. France has (If I remember OK , SECAM) . Its the way the tv is broadcasted.

Pal: 576 horizontal lines to make an image, 25 images per second.
NTSC: 480 horizontal lines to make an image, 30 images per second.

For more info: http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Articles/PALvsNTSC/PALvsNTSC.asp

Just email them. There must be some conversor. If your image source is NTSC (dvd, ps2, etc) and you pass trough an pal interface, you will get a b&W image with lots of interfereces.

Cables are ok, right, left and video, but it's the signal they carry what it changes.

hope it helps.

Are the version D MFD's being sold on German Ebay the same thing that you guys received in the group buy? How does the language thing work? Does the unit obtain the language depending on the cd you put in, or is it default German language in the menu interfaces?
