Stereo ACC drawing constant power when the key is removed

I searched the forum and couldn't find an answer to this. installed an aftermarket stereo in my Passat B6 2009. The ground and ACC wires were exposed from a previous installation and ended up shorting. I have covered these wires now.

The problem I now have is that the stereo stays on after the key has been removed, previously it had turned on/off with the key. I have checked all the fuse (front/left/right) with a multimeter and there are no faulty ones. I tested the ACC wire on the harness end and it is receiving a constant power supply whether the key is in or out.

Any ideas on fixing this issue? Thanks in advance

Fuses won't have anything to do with your particular issue. You somehow have the head unit wired to a constant power wire. Recheck the connections and find a switched wire and connect your head unit power to that. You also should have a separate wire that goes to a constant power to retain the radios memory but that won't allow you to power the head on without the key turned on.

you need to verify your connections.

Please confirm my assumptions made from your post.
  • Aftermarket radio installed, using an aftermarket harness adapter
  • Aftermarket radio shut off with key removal prior to shorting of wires.
  • Aftermarket radio now does not shut off with key removal (no wire connections were changed)
Can you post a pic of the harness and/or connections?
