Squeaky steering rack

I replaced my steering rack in January 2010 after having curbed the car. At the time, I was unaware of the mineral-based power steering fluid necessity, so I just put whatever generic fluid I had in there. Finally, after more than two years of driving it like that, it began to squeak at certain steering angles. I did some research, found my error, and replaced the steering fluid as quickly as possible. I was able to drain out maybe 90% of the old stuff and filled it up with Pentosin.

Now, the squeaks persist at certain, extreme steering angles, but only if I'm not on the gas at all. If I give the power steering any help, there's no noise, but if I don't, it complains loudly.

Do you think I permanently damaged the rack? Is there a way to check?

I think normally the wrong fluid ruins the seals and you know it fails when it all leaks out past the seals faster than you can refill. :D
