Fellow b5 speed junkies,

Whats your top mph run? Just curious what everyone is topping out at with different mods, etc.

I have a 99 b5 1.8t with tip and no mods yet and did 127 on the stretch from Kingman, AZ to the Hoover Dam last weekend. I was a bit disappointed, but it was 100 out so thats gotta figure into overall turbo/hp loss. Right when I dropped back to 85 there was a cop there so the passat gods were with me that day...

Also, if you have a good story to post with your run (busted  , animal roadkill  , mechanical failure  ) make sure to include it.

Should be a good topic...

Accidentally hit the limiter at 130 in mine on a trip to North Carolina, luckily no cops around and I was alone on the highway. A bit scary....

121 mph on I-70 east of Denver on a Friday PM. Was cloaked so cops couldn't see me  . A bit later, 100 mph on a stretch of just paved county road. 3 miles of deserted asphalt with little dips and rises = negative G's. WooHoo!!!!

-130 MPH+ through light traffic on the 10 FWY towards Santa Monica while racing an Audi A4 with my girlfriend in the car.

Never heard the end of that one :p

-I hit a little over 125 mph with 5 people in the car once in San Diego.

That felt pretty stupid afterwards.....

-Hit around 138 near Palm Springs and basically ran out of gears.....

And I wonder why my insurance is so high.... :weirdo:

137ish on my 1987 Yamaha FZ 700 on the other side of Julian (near San Diego). Kind of a flat stretch of road that we opened up on and practiced wheelies, ect. The only thing that kind of kept us on edge was the Yellow Cow crossing sign!
Also raced a Ferrari 305GTB from LA to SD anywhere from 105 to 125 depending on traffic...back when I was young and stupid (was fun though) got into traffic and we both gave the thumbs up and went our seperate ways (I originally was following to get a look at his HOT wife/G'friend and look what it lead to). Got to love I-5 between Carlsbad and Irvine (except for the stupid check point halfway or so) :D

110 in a '90 Crown Victoria CHP cruiser on I-8 out in Neddles, CA
85-90 (needle bouncing) in my '72 Mini 1275 GT on Perimeter Road Rota,Spain (in a car that small seems way faster!)

I'm not saying it was me in the car, just someone that looks a lot like me in an Elegant Green '99 1.8T with mods very simular to mine. But that guy hit 145MPH once. 8) :) He said he didn't believe it the first time he looked real quick, so he glanced again and sure enough, that's what the speedo was reading! At that speed the car began to float a bit, err, at least that's what he told me.

But it was fun! He said... :nervous:

162 on an '88 Katana 1100 w/ some carb and exhaust mods (pulled redline, not based on speedometer). I was racing a Honda 600 F2 on I-395 just north of Waterford, CT. He never knew what hit him because my bike had a custom paint job with no stickers. It was at night and he rolled up beside me, threw some revs my way and then took off. He looked a little surprised when I closed in and passed him at a good 20 mph especially since he had topped out at around 135.

Unfortunately, the bike was sold after our first child, now it's time to mod the Passat, yippeeeeee!

lets see which clubb5 member will be the first to chime in today about road safety and start ragging on people and spoil the thread... :(

Anyways, after my car is complete, will be driving across country to NC. Have new radar and clear bra is on the way so, should have some nice top speed stories for those long GumBall style stretch of roads. Will try to take some speedo pictures when topping out.... don't have anything now though, I don't walk that fast...

I hit 110 and 120 each once in my '03 1.8T and felt very comfortable and it wasn't shaky at all, I just ran out of road. I cruised to work this morning at 95 mph for 70 miles and it was like silk I did 125 in my 1966 Mustang on a country road and was the scariest thing in my life..

Here ya go, I'll get it out of the way:

I can't f'n believe anyone would start a thread like this. This is totally irresponsible, no one is "in control" or "safe" when doing 120mph+ on a public road that is not closed off. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Not to mention just setting yourselves up for interest from law enforcement officials.

Oh yeah, my car went 125mph somewhere once and here is a pic of the speedo. But I was in total control and was safe because it was just me and a passenger on a wide open public highway with no helmets or safety equipment on stock contis and 15" steelies. I'd do it again too!

Careful of CHP air patrol, though.
The best time to rip through there is when the Marines are doing practice beach assaults with their own helicopters, cuz the CHP doesn't want to interfere with their opns. :)

I also like the 5 freeway through Irvine and Tustin Sundays at about 6am.
Straight, smooth, and great visibility.
Haven't run my Passat V6 beyond 110, but the NB has topped 130 indicated.

Speed

I've been at 125 in the my baby on I-70 between Topeka and Lawrence. The fastest I've driven is 135 racing a new Mercury Cougar in a 4 door Pontiac Grand AM coming back from ST. Louis. My passenger looked at the speedometer, and I told her to just "lay back and close your eyes".

That damn limiter got me too, 130mph. Time to get chipped

Just like Chas and Herman's story:

I saw the speedometer on a '98 Nebio Blue 1.8T at a steady 145 mph and still have some more wind left on the puny 1.8T engine.

*This was on a lonely stretch of the 241 toll road at 6 am and not a soul on the road.

I hit 137 on my stock ECU (p/n: 4B0 906 018 BG, ATW engine)...

That was on the stock H rated Continental CH95 tires too.
