Shifter issue

The gear shifter on my 2021 Passat r line was pulled off
When I went to put it back on the button doesn’t depress and won’t shift into park neutral etc
It will work with the shifter off and I pull up on the plastic part on the metal rod
Can anybody help me with this please

also I accidently pulled out the plastic release thing and can’t get it back in

I took it to a couple local places and were to busy to give it a good look

Bring your Passat into the dealer under your original warranty whether you bought your Passat new or used, it will be covered and it shouldn't matter how it was pulled off if it happened under normal use, it shouldn't happen.
VW corporate should be appreciative you brought it to their attention and it doesn't become an issue for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
Please make sure you update the forum of your results so we all know how VW responds.
