The maintenance manual states that to remove the spark plungs a special Removal/installation tool T10094 is required.

Is this true? Has anyone replace the plugs on the W8 without the tool?

I think T10094 is for pulling the coil packs. I had no problem doing it by hand. Just give 'em a little twist if they don't come right up.

The only tools you'll need are a 5mm hex bit, a 5/8" spark plug socket, 6" extention bar for your ratchet, 3/8" ratchet and a torque wrench.

Per Bentley, VAG tool T40039 is for pulling "press-in" coils.
For V6 only - there is VAG tool T10029...(conventional spark plug wires)
Manual also says "wiggle free" press-in coil as well.
There is a VAG tool for the spark plugs (VAG 3122B), but a normal sparkplug socket and extension work fine.
Torque wrench is a must. I have one for in/lbs, and one for ft/lbs.
5mm is for intake manifold side section(s) for sure.
I'm doing mine tomorrow, and will do a short write-up. It doesn't look bad.
I'm afraid to even ask what the dealer would charge for 8 stock NGK's and labor to replace them...My guess is around 250.00 to 300.00?

If you want plugs for your W8 go to www.rockauto.com. They are less than $7 each. If you go somewhere else make sure you get the right ones. Some places are selling the V6 NGPs for the W8. No one here has posted a DIY for replacing plugs on a W8 for if you do it, document it for us all.

BTW, coil packs are easy to remove with your fingers. Unless you have an AEB engine which requires an Allen wrench.
