Couldn't find anything on this with the search:

The VW emblems on my remotes are starting to peel leaving only the bare metal base. Can these be replaced or is a whole new remote necessary (that would be crazy but the dealer also told me once that I had to get a whole new steering weel cover since the emblem there was scratched...).

Thanks

Time to buy a new car! (I don't think the Audi's have that problem.)

I have to expand on that! VW doesn't worry about that sort of thing. I once tried to find out about the steering wheel airbag emblem and was told the same thing: I'd have to replace the airbag (at $300+ !).
I don't think you have any options (unless you can get stickers made to cover up the spot).

Getting a whole new remote to replace the emblem is overkill in my eyes. I could have seen myself paying a reasonable amount for a new emblem but not for a new remote. Personally I think this is a way VW markets itself: putting their emblems on stuff we buy, therefore it would be in their best interest to keep this things looking good and replace them for free...

I might go the debadging route - but wait, I don't have to worry about that, it's happening already... ;)

I've been having the same problem, as soon as a bit of it scrapped of the rest is coming off pretty rapidly. I think this was really tacky for them to make a key that can't handle 2 years worth of every day handling, but that's my humble opinion. I've contemplated spending 35 dollars to buy one =(, but that's just ascetics

What are you guys doing with your keys?? I've abused my key, dropped it, flung it, scraped it, you name it. The only problem is it's not as pretty.... Other than that, I see no problem with my emblem coming off etc. Bad batch?

The VW emblem fell off my key fob sometime after the 1st year of ownership too. I suspect VW uses the same glue to attach the emblem to the key fob as they do with the emblem on the engine cover. Ha ha!

My emblem is getting scratched off. It started with a bit of the white getting scratched (chipped) and now about a quarter of the V is gone. I take care of my keys quite a bit. I even keep my change and keys in different pockets. I keep my car key at my work drawer. The paint just isn't very durable as far as I know. I'm guessing we had different batches and/or they changed the material that they used for the paint.

It appears that the logo on my '03 keyfob is trying to join the emblem missing off the top of the engine cover, but it's doing it one tiny flake by tiny flake.

Right, the paint is coming off little by little. I heard from some where the whole thing fell off. I think on the more recent MY it's more a problem with the paint since the metal base stays on.

And I vehemently reject the idea it's due to abuse. My Passat get's babied including the remote! Sure there are other keys on the same ring but that is normal usage, i.e. if they cause the paint to come off then there is a quality issue with the emblem. This should be a warranty item, really.

Well I figured the weight I saved when my engine emblem fell off more than compensated the loss of visual appeal. Besides, its difficult to drive with the hood up showing off your shiny emblem.

As for the key, I've got sort of a salt and pepper thing going on with my main key...sprinkled silver. Kind of like... Jon Stewart.
