Questions about the rear fog light?

What's the best way to hook up the rear fog light?
Does the Passat already have all of the wiring in place?
I would think so because it was made in Germany, I know the Golf's here in the US don't come prewired because they weren't built in Germany.
I already have the Euroswitch installed so I guess I'm on my way.

Can anyone shed a little light on this?

You have a B5.5 or B5? It's a bit easier on the B5 because there is a place for the rear fog already, on the lens and bulb holder - just run the wire.

On a B5.5, if you stick with the US bulb holders, then you need to wire a diode so that the brakes and rear fog can share the same circle (driver's side bottom circle). If you want to go "semi" Euro, then get the Euro bulb holders, swap the bulbs from your NA holders into the Euro holders and run the wire - almost plug n play. The difference is that only the top circles light up when you brake on the Euro holders as opposed to all 4.

I say "semi" Euro because you can either retain your US lenses or spend 300 bux on Euro lenses to make it truely Euro. I went with just the bulb holders for 40 bux.

Do you mean that the lower circle would continue to function as a brake light when the rear fog switch is off?
Yes

Ardsley, I was up there this weekend, actually I was visiting a friend in Cortlandt Manor.
Cortlandt Manor is a bit farther north than where I am (~20 miles), but certainly in the neighborhood. The weather was beautiful this past weekend, I hope you enjoyed the leaves.
It was probably a bit less than 20 miles but very close. Yes it's beautiful there - the leaves, the deer, everything!!!

Sounds like you're familiar with Westchester.

Anyway, I'm very interested in the fog light mod, but I'd want to keep all 4 brake lights functional. Not sure if the work required is something I can handle. I need to keep reading the different threads on how to do it.
