Hi. My vehicle is a 2003 w8 4 motion. I love it! Do have a wee problem though, I have done a bit of a search on the site and unfortunately found nothing on the fault mentioned. Its code is P0798, Pressure Control Solenoid "C" Electrical Fault. My w8 occasionally drops into limp mode on start first thing in the morning. It resets fine and might not do it again for several days.

I have also noticed a lifter type rattle on start which has appeared. Now unfortunately my manual for the vehicle is in transit from the USA so I have nothing to reference.

Could anyone please kindly assist me with some information on this fault? Or send me some technical data?

Many thanks.

The valve solenoid is probably shot. You can replace these as an individual piece, but it requires a tranny oil drain, transmission oil pan drop, A/T filter replacement (might as well,) and replacing the solenoid on the valve body. Not sure of capacities on the tranny oil for a W8. The manual will probably help out a bit more but here's a guide to the transmission, which I believe is the standard FWD transmission for the V6 and 1.8t here, but it's probably built up relatively the same.

Trans is the same as far as the fluid/filter and solenoid is concerned. I'd have the cam chain tensioners checked for the rattle. Sometimes they can be "shocked" into working, but replacement requires an engine pull.
