Newbie wanting buying advice

Hi fellows.

I am a newbie in Milwaukee and i want some buying advice. I wanted to know if you guys could help point me in the right direction as to what year and model i should get if i am looking at something between 2000 - 2003.

Any advice will be well appreciated

NB... willing to buy something upto about $14000

Well, the car was redesigned in 2001.5, so be careful that you know which you're getting.

The old design was simpler and cleaner, while the newer one (essentially the same) went with a more upscale, classy design. It all depends on what you're looking for style-wise.

Also, do you have an engine preference? Options? Sedan or Wagon (Variant)?You can get a lot for $14k, from a fully-loaded 2000 GLX V6 to a more base-level 2003 model.

There are constantly threads going on this, but IMO it boils down to this:

1. Save money up front and get the option of more performance increases with the 1.8t...but risk far more engine problems due to the complexity of the turbo. You'll save on gas if you drive conservatively (3-5mpg better than V6). But you'll have low torque from the bottom, up until you get into the boost range. This engine shines above 3000 rpm.

2. Spend more up front and limit modification by getting the V6. You'll have user-friendly torque throughout the range, and is very smooth at all speeds. You'll suck up more gas, but you'll have a lot fewer engine issues to contend with.
