I would guess the axle. You mention that you replaced the axle, was it on the same side as the rattle? What brand of axle did you use?

 

I can't remember which side it was but I suspect it was that side. It wasn't Raxles but it wasn't a rebuilt unit that is for sure.

 

Anyone else have any theories as to what it could be? I am thinking maybe worn TRE?

 

Does it rattle with the brakes applied? A lot of time the pads will come loose and rattle in the carrier. Try running over the same patch a couple times, with brakes applied and without. Considering you just did a brake job it's a possibility. If it doesn't rattle with brakes applied, most likely the pads.

I did a brake job, thought I did 100% correct and still had this issue.

x2, mine rattle on both sides. I can take a hammer and hit the face of the tire tread and hear the pads rattle.

IIRC Johnnycanuck had a metallic rattling and it turned out to be aloose pulley bolts. But his is a V6......

 

Thanks for the answers all! I plan to take the wheel off and hopefully find something. What, if any, are the signs of an axle going bad? Boots are fine as I check regularly.
