Lowering Questions

I have gotten mixed comments on this subject. I am going to be putting 18s on my 00 Passat very soon. I would love to replace the suspension at the same time, so my car doesn't look like an SUV. However, after buying the wheels, I will have very little money left to go towards suspension. I might be able to afford Neuspeed springs from the GB + install cost.

Are there any major problems running aftermarket springs with the stock shocks? I don't want to end up having to replace everything 10k miles later.

Some people have told me that it is ok and that they have run thousands of miles on that setup. However, some have told me that it is not ok, and that it will screw up the stock shocks in a matter of months.

I have the original shocks on the car...they have 58k miles on them.

Any thoughts comment will be greatly appreciated...Hopefully I can resolve this issue.

Sorry for the long post.

Thanks.

i think this is discussed here quite well:

it boils down to risk tolerance and financial/time commitments.

if you do run the stock shocks and they either suck or blow out (haha) do you have the time or money to redo the work?

for me, i'm going to do the install myself, and i'm going to run neuspeed sports on the stock shocks, they currently have 40K miles on them. if they suck or blow, i'll buy new shocks and do the work again (i have the time).
