99 GLX Passat

I was under my car recently and noticed that the drivers side lower ball joint boot is torn and dry.
Im wondering if these are replaceable as a balljoint or do I have to buy a complete arm?
Only the drivers side has torn so no grease in it = failure soon.
Id like to replace it as quickly as possible.

Does anyone make a greasable BJ or are they all "sealerd for life"??

Anyone DIY this and how difficult is it (1-10 scale) wth air tools etc.

PS - Is this what it will look like when its out of Passat?

You have to buy a whole arm...not THAT hard of a job. You could replace just the one, but I'd be willing to bet the others would go soon as well (that's what happened to me...2 months after replacing just one, I had to do the other 3).

thanks, I just called VWoA and they said yes indeed there is a recall.

I will make an appt. with them to have it repaired.

I take it since this arms doesnt have anything to do with alignment that its not required after service (a toe set etc)?

Replacement will not affect alignment,but a bad ball joint would. If it was aligned before the joint was bad,the alignment should be fine.
