I am sooooooo

All this for about $5 in loose change and a pair of Ray-ban's which they couldn't even see. Another Golf and an Accord got it as well. Off to the dealer and got a rental til Monday. I'm guessing around $400 to fix it and I gotta get it retinted. Arrrrrggghh!

Sorry to see what happened.   It makes me angry to see that because it's happened to my Civic before and I know how you feel. I had to drive around with a cardboard cutout of my window for a few days until I could take it to the glass shop. Fucking animals!

Due leadfoot, sorry to hear about your misfortune man.

I feel your pain. When I was in my college glory days, I had a (brace yourself for laughter) 1985 Buick Century pretty tricked out with mobile electronics. Well enough people caught wind of me "advertising" the goods and finally one night, they broke into my car in my driveway and cleaned me out. Fortunately, I got insurance money to cover all but the CD's.

Then like the moron I am  I decide to reinvest the money I got back into more mobile electronics. Guess what? A month later, I wake up to glass all over the street again but this time they take nothing.

The kicker of this incident is that when I went to the window repair place to get new glass, they bill me exactly 99 dollars for the work (I had a 100 dollar deductable)

Anyways, sorry for the rant, leadfoot hope ya find the punks who damaged your ride!

Laters,
-Chris

Been there, and I feel for you. I'm trying to figure out why the pry marks on the door trim... what the hell were they doing to the trim when they went through the window?? I don't know if hanging is right, but I sure would be up for some public canings.

Hey ledfoot,
You say that is underground parking? Have you asked to see if there is hidden surveillance there? It is entirely possible that the act was caught on film. It might not help you catch the guy but then again, maybe it would! It is definitely worth asking!

Thanks for the sympathy guys. I've calmed down a little but am still pissed off.

Wapptor - got a neon colored green 2003 Beetle. Not too bad of a car but it is a little girly and it ain't no V6 I'll tell ya that.

SeattleReign - hilarious post, The guy who owned the Golf talked about being from Germany and was actually raised under Hitler and he said that the fear he put into people there was no crime. He seems to love the idea of communism as well. Mmmmmm can't say I totally agree with him but cutting off their hands like they do in Pakistan would be fine with me. Canada is just too damn easy on criminals and even if the police caught them all they'd get would be a slap on the wrist.
I am glad I brought it to the dealer however cause the Golf guy brought his to a Speedy AutoGlass the same day and I was jealous cause he was gonna get his fixed right away, but when I came back in the evening he just had plastic over the window. I saw him later and asked him about it and he said the window regulator, some plastic piece inside the door, was broken and the Speedy guy didn't have the part!
And for as to why the bent the trim and just didn't smack the window....your guess is an good as mine.

Citispot - As for camera's...funny you should mention that. The parking garage is fairly small I would say about 25-30 cars. The idiot who runs the 'Board' owns 2 motorcycles that were (appeared to be) tipped over a couple of years back. Thousands in damage with cracked fairings and repaint work. He did buy, mmmm or maybe the building bought, two small hidden cameras and had them mounted inconspicuouly over his motorcycles in an attempt to catch the person, who he thought lived in the building and didn't like him, pushing them again. Well that has never happened. So as soon as I found the window smashed I went to his Suite and asked him to review the computer footage. Only two suspicious people seen, one around midnight and the other around 7am but their heads were cut off (I wish) and you could really only see their body and due to the angles no vanadlism was captured. Pretty useless if you ask me. The cops don't really care either. I called them and all they do is file a report.

When I called the dealer, the window is $81.80, the vertical black trim where the shithead used the screw driver is $65.60 and the chrome trim/window slot seal was $82.00. I guess the labour to be about an hour maybe $100, retinting probably $40-50, rental at $40 per day - think I'll return in Monday and take public transit to work (sucks). The guy at the dealer, and I am thinking the same, not to claim it as I have a $300 deductible and if I claim it they'll put my rates up anyways. I'll have to wait and see the final bill first as I may need some other parts like the regulator.
My wife is just happy that they didn't vandalize anything and I guess I am too. No body paint was damaged, all leather was intact and the dash and all other areas weren't damaged. I was surprised how the tinting film held everything together - sure saved the leather, cause if there was glass on everything and the perp kneeled in and ground the glass into the leather I might be looking at a new seat.

Dude, that really sucks. I had a friend in college that had a mid-80's Buick that was in such bad condition that the doors would no longer lock. Yet, he still installed a couple thousand dollars worth of audio equipment, kept his entire CD Collection in there and even installed a cheapo alarm system - all in a car that didn't even lock!

I am thinking the same way....just park my car down there and leave the windows rolled down, leave nothing of value. If they steal the whole car then I claim to get a new one but this BS is just money out of my pocket. Makes you think

There's been a rash of this crap going around the entire country (and continent, I guess). God, all this for petty change in someones wallet.

Get a job, idiots. At least your not pissing someone off... regularly. Heh.

When you really think about the high cost of auto insurance, a big portion of what you pay for is crap like that, damage due to theft. It's probably responsible for a quarter of the cost of peoples insurance today. It's insane that criminals that do this only get minimal penalties. I say shame the whole family and publicly humiliate these punks... sure can't hurt.

Sucks dude. Had the same thing happen to me. I even have that same pucker on my black trim by the glass. I don't know why they have to do that shit if they're gonna break the glass anyhow. I still have the damage since I can't figure out how to take that part off and put the new one on.

I was thinking the same thing until I saw the window intact laying on the ground. Window film holds all those shards together and would have been difficult to break into. Since most window tinters don't go all the way to the window edge, the thief went to the weak point. It was probably pretty quiet too since it probably just made a pop sound intead of a shattering sound.

wow , sorry to hear about this. Reminded me on my First day in San Jose State Univ. I park the car (65' Mustang) in front of the this house next door to the apartment with a few guy's sitting on the porch; no more than 10 minutes away from the car (moving stuff into the apartment"`) and the stereo is gone. I go to the group of guy's on the house stoop and asked them point blank if they saw anything and they all shook their heads no. I knew then it was one of them but they're not going to rat on each other.

A few months later, it got broken into again as this time, they broke a wing-window.They took some change just like you and I think a flash light. Now here's the upsetting part:

I used some HD straping tape to repair the wing-window temporarily and a week later they broke the OTHER wing window on the drivers side; appears the tape was too tough for whomever it was and it was just easier to break the other window I guess. :???:  :???:

After that, I just rolled the window down half-way and opened up all the compartments so they could see I had nothing to take. Being this was the "Low Riders" era, I had to double chain the hood shut as well.

Welcome to SJSU!
