The answer to that question would be no then... the 01 came with either the tape deck in-dash, the tape deck and add-on cd in-dash, or the tape deck in-dash and cd changer in the trunk.

Single-DIN Passats with CD/Radio comes with Blaupunkt Heidelberg CD51.

 

Either way... if you're looking to replace your current HU, you'd be better off finding an aftermarket HU that you like... it will generally be cheaper than trying to find an OEM HU and if you have Monsoon, it will in fact work with it.

Still interested to know if anyone knows of a single-din FACTORY VW CD/radio that will work seamlessly in the B5 passat, possibly with W8 steering wheel controls?

 

Blaupunkt IS installed by the factory (or at least the dealer) in new Passat with single DIN.

To use the steering controls, you need an adapter: http://www.bluespot.co.uk/install/vw.asp

Skoda Symphony CD/Radio will also fit (don't know about the steering controls).
