Just as the topic states... I feel like I put more miles on my car than any NYC taxi. Well not really... but you get my point. I just filled up my tank Monday afternoon, $28.45. It's now late Wednesday night, and my gas light just came on at 406 miles. Yea, 413 friggen miles in 2 days. I bought my car on 2/17 with a hair over 78k and I hit 86k Tuesday morning. At this rate, I'll hit 100k in no time, especially since my girl is home for the summer (that's where I racked up all this mileage in the past 2 days, 70 miles each way from me). But anyway... enough bitching from me, just felt the need to rant before I hit the hay.

yeah, i drive a lot too.. but not nearly as much as you

I got my car in the middle of November '03 with 19K miles on it, and I'm a little under 29K miles right now. I always put a lot of miles on my car. I had a Honda Prelude for 3 1/2 years, got it with 70K miles, by the time I was done, I had put 55K miles on it, sold it with about 125K on it.

I feel your pain.... Had my last car for just over three years, and put 100,000+ miles on it...
I'm driving 85 miles round trip to work, not including driving out for dinner or shopping errands.

I figure that when I buy my next car in 2008 I'll have about 170,000 on my 2000 GLX. But hey, my main car in high school beat that in it's first few years... When I sold the '73 superbeetle, it had an estimated 553,500 miles on it. Took two engines....

I put on 52mi a day, average. Work is 37mi by itself, but the weekends are compensated by my monthly trips to NJ (NYC area).

2000 Variant, picked up 12/23/99
as of today, just under 116K.

Other than a couple of MAF sensors, no real problems

Well, that's a good thing isn't it? You bought the car to drive it!

A coworker of mine bought a really nice $40k pickup (can't remember what kind). He doesn't want to drive it anywhere because he "hates to put miles on it". It sits in his garage and he drives his other car everywhere unless he has a use for his truck. He never got to enjoy it, eventually sold it, and still took a bath even with his low miles.

A car, never being a good investment, should be driven and enjoyed. Hell, I traded in my '99 M3 with just under 100K miles on it. Sure, I took a bit of a hit because the mileage was high, but I spent five very fun years tooling around in that thing.

Hey scfb518t,

I would have gladly sold it to you... I think it's actually still on the lot for sale over at Don Jacobs here in Lexington, KY. It's a titan Silver/Black Leather '99 M3 loaded - even had the kick ass ultra-light wheels on it. I got it new in '99, and was the only owner, with the vast majority of the miles being on the highway. It's in great condition - the interior (especially) is nearly in perfect condition. If you're seriously interested, give Jason McCurry a call @ (859)276-3546. Tell him you're interested in Abe's car and he'll know the one you're talking about.
