I recently noticed a howling coming from the lower front passenger side of the motor. The weird part is that it only happens when I have the heat on, as soon as the heat is turned off it fades away and stops within 10 seconds. One of the pulleys going bad? The tensioner pulley was replaced by the previous owner about 20k miles ago, as far as I can tell by the service records he gave me for the same reason. Thanks for the help!

That's weird; I can't think of anything that would make it heater dependent. That said, I had what could have been considered a howl coming from that area; I figured it was the belt pulley or AC compressor. Surprise! Turned out it was both.

My bad, I thought this was from behind the dash towards the motor. Then it would be your AC fan. Under the pollen filter. That makes a noise in the winter.

But I guess I am wrong. After reading PZ's response in your other thread, this may be something else.
