how to hook up the city lights in a HID unit on a b5

I installed my HID units in my B5. I was told that I can hook up the city lights to it. The bulbs are there but in use. Why is that? If there is a way to do so has anyone done it? If so any pics?

Would like to use the city lights so any help would be helpful.

Where & when did you get your HIDs?

I got in on Neuspeed's close-out sale and I've just had them installed. Rich at dubwerks said that he could not connect mine up because there was nothing in the #1 connecter on the HIDs. It was just an empty space like my normal North American headlight (since NA didn't have city lights) that the HIDs replaced. Rich rang Neuspeed and I've contacted them as well. I was told that they will get back to me tomorrow.

The upshot is that if you got them from Neuspeed in the close-out sale, you might have the same problem as me.

What if you have fog lights and want the city lights?

I thought there was a way with the euroswitch to get both. First click with city lights and first pull with fogs.

Anyone know.

i'm in your neighbourhood. Let me know if a GTG on this. I would like this project to be over with. Including leveling the lights. I'm having a hard time doing so. The right one is always up. Can't lower it for some reason.

Although, swapping wire positions is the easiest way, on my car I connected my city lights to my parking lights.

I took the parking light wire from the corner lights, hooked it up to the city lights so now the city lights come just as parking lights. (I disabled my corner parking lights and use city lights exclusively, but you could always have them come on simultaneously.)

I'm a fellow B5'er with no fogs and I went the diagramed set-up. Works well for me. First postion, parking lights, pull once for city lights, second position, HID's. Although the City's don't appear to cast much light, they are quite visible to the outside world.

Yeah I got my from NeuSpeed from their close out. They claimed that it can be hooked up. What gives? False advertisement? Did we get ripped off? Mislead?

I even bought the connectors 000-97-117
I bought the 000-97-117 connecters too. And I (well, Rich at dubwerks actually) got the city-lights to work. I'm not sure of the details but there may have been come confusion between the #1 and #3 pin positions. Like jwilker, I've got the corner & city lights at one click, HIDs at two clicks and my Votex fogs at one pull. All is right with the world. Good luck with yours.

if you look at this picture, take the plug apart and take the wire in the green position and put it to the red position. thats how i didn't mine. with the euro switch it works on the first pull(fog light position).

theres alot of good info on stargazers website http://www.istargazer.ca/b5/b5main.htm

Does anyone know how you are supposed to take the plug apart? I see the black part with a pink piece and then the rubber piece. If I pull back the rubber, I can see the wires going into the pink piece. But I don't know where to go from there. Am I supposed to seperate the pink piece from the black piece?

If you look at it, there's the purple plastic inside. It's got teeth for each side of the plug, and those lock into two notches on the inside, kind of like there's "two" settings. Take a small screwdriver, and press in towards the center of the plug to loosen it, and move it back ONE slot. Do the same for the other. Now all the plugs will be loose and free to swap about. Put the green where the red goes, reposition the purple to the first slots, and voila. It'll make tons of sense once oyu see it and do it once.

Bascially, when you do it right, you're not taking apart the switch really at all.

I think I'm going to hook up my city lights to work with my parking lights.

VW Detroit: I got my manual levelers from P&G Performance & finally got them to work after b5bel suggested I reverse my + & - wires. You can use a very fine needle screwdriver to get the wire prongs out of the black plastic plug connector and then switch them (the yellow + & the brown ground -) Check the wires on the side that works and compare their orientation with the non-working side. Good luck.

 I tried forever to move the wire, to no avail. Are these the two holes that you are supposed to stick the screwdriver into?
I don't think so. IIRC, and looking from the pic above, you need to fiddle with the purple tab that's on the right side -- once the whole thing releases, basically the assembly unclamps the wires and you're then free to move them around. Be careful -- now ALL the wires are free to be pulled out.

Can anyone else be more specific?
I cant believe out of all the people who participated in this thread... of all the people who viewed this thread, I am the only one having trouble.

It's exactly as described.

You have to slide the purple thing to the side. It's what locks the plugs in. Then move Green to red. Now your city's will turn on when you click to the fogs. Or you can move the plug and snip the wire. Run a wire from the corners (grey wire) to the plug and then your lights will turn on with your corners at click one leaving the fog click for aftermarket fogs.

This is so you can use your City Lights as if they were your fogs on the stock headlights. Use the color key above for correct wire placement. Hope this clears anything up. Once you get it, you'll laugh at how easy it really is. Make sure you only move it down ONE notch. Lock one side, then do the other, and all the wires will be loose then. Slide the entire purple back to snap into original position. Good luck.

edit: that should say depress TAB, not TAP.

Thanks for taking the time to make that diagram, chrisyoon! :)

It really helped to clarify things. It took me a while, but I was finally able to do it. It's one of those things where (even though I know what I'm doing now) I couldnt do it any quicker the second time.

Euro HID's shine up and to the right to illuminate street signs, otherwise, you would never see them because thert is so little scattered light. Could this be the problem with aiming?
