hey guys, wanted to see if anyone else experienced this before.. so its a blizzard out today and i was driving steadily at 55mph and felt a quick shudder in 5th gear.. kinda felt like a toque converter shudder, but about ten minutes later it started shuddering and slowly brought me to a full stop.. i tried downshifting manually with the tip, but the car wouldnt even rev. sat at a very rough idle for about 3-4 minutes while on the phone and it slowly regained a calm idle... pulled out, started driving normally again. ten minutes later, same thing.. brought me all the way down to a stop.. i couldnt even rev while in parked.. then slowly came back a couple minute later and drove alright. i recently purchased the car and this week i bought the obd cord so i can run some diagnositcs.. CEL is on. i believe the car has had some sort of misfire because when i progressively push the throttle, it will go from worthless power, and when i move like through 50-60 percent throttle it all the sudden sparks up and puts you back in the seat in a flick of the switch so to speak. anyone have any issues like that before? ill update this weekend when i get the cord and program downloaded. thanks guys

ill check this afternoon. purchased the car a couple months ago and havent done anything tuneup wise. originally purchased the car not running, needed an alternator, water pump, timing belt. replaced all that and its been running "pretty good" since. but it has been having that no power until half throttle then jerky sudden acceleration after 50% throttle issue consistently. so not sure if a cylinder is misfiring until half throttle and then all the sudden comes to life, but ill check and see what plugs are in the car this afternoon. one thing that needs attention as well are my flex pipes are leaking.. need to replace abs sensors as well. does the vcds lite software download allow me to erase codes? i have an airbag fault light illuminated and was hoping to figure that out as well. possibly a stupid question, but if you dont buckle your seatbelt in these cars, is there a seatbelt logo that stays illuminated? or a bell that goes off if you dont buckle your seatbelt? mine has no light, no bells going off if i dont have my buckle on.

Ok so just stopped by the autozone to get some basic codes read and it only came back with 1 code...

P001 stating that the bank 1 intake camshaft position timing was advanced beyond limits

Anyone have some insight here on this? Surprised that it only pulled one single code, although I'm assuming the basic code reader they have isn't getting everything

so tonight i pulled all the plugs, pinched and re gapped them to the correct gapping (roughly .032-.035) and wired brushed them off gently.. they look old "ish" i suppose. might consider picking up some new ones just to be safe. i also went ahead and removed the MAF sensor and air box to clean it all out. quite a bit of debris on the screen of the MAF so i cleaned it out, sprayed with with the proper maf cleaner. also removed the air box and cleaned that out as well and there was quite a bit of crap in there. drove home tonight and didnt feel that steep acceleration jerking which was nice, will test drive around a little bit tomorrow and update, but felt pretty good overall.

*** also seeing there is quite a significant difference between the bkr63 and the bkr6ekub plugs... should i now consider changing them out for sure?***

well i got the abs sensor on the drivers side out.. definitely took some "love" to get it out.. ended up breaking apart the brass or copper cage so thatll need to get ordered up before i replace with the new sensor. also got the new plugs today and got em in there tonight. runs smooth but still unfortunately has that jerky acceleration when pressing through mid throttle. its almost like you can feel the resistance in the peddle, wondering if maybe there is something restricting the throttle or maybe the throttle body is gummed up? any thoughts on that? also got a laptop that can load up the vcds so ill have updated codes tomorrow. thanks fellas!

Yes, gummy throttle bodys are no friend of electronically actuated throttles. You can clean the TB fairly easily with a toothbrush and some cleaner by removing the intake hose - search for soem relevant threads. Just don't drop anything into the manifold, and don't drip carb cleaner on your clean driveway unless you like permanent psychedelic artwork on it.

so kinda revitalising this thread as ive been having some issues with the car the last couple weeks..

the car has always made this almost metal on metal whining noise when accelerating and ive been reading into the camshaft adjuster/half moon runner issues people have with these cars and it hit me like a ton of bricks.. what i think is a misfire i am almost positive now the car is attempting to jump time, or has possibly jumped time and is advanced enough to throw that code. does this make sense to anyone? hoping i can get some insight on here before the weekend. the car is still running fine at the moment, but i would really like to address the issue before it gets worse. thanks guys i appreciate it.
