I'd claim that under warranty, if you still have one.

This is due to the natural problem LCD Displays have with extreme temperatures. Many older Lexus vehicles have this problem with the more traditional black on white LCDs like our radio displays,to the point where the digits cant even be seen after a few years. When I get in my 5.5 my Radio Display is a dark grey color,as the temperature cools,it goes back to a lighter grey. Temperature is just not the friend of the LCD. In the winter, extreme cold also takes its toll on them.

Maybe its with time?? I have driven my Passat to Davis lately (school) where on avg the weather is over 90*F. The car is all back leather and it sometimes will sit there for the whole day while i am in class but i have yet to see any of the effects you guys are talking about in my car...
Now i have seen LCD do funny things due to heat, but ususal they correct themself once it gets a tad bit cooler..
I think it might be your guys cars are older maybe.... But i dont think it is just the temps bc my car has seen some crazy wether but the LCD is doing well...

I started noticing the problem this spring. My B5 is a 2000 model year, and the display fades even in 80 degree outdoor weather. It does become clearer/crisper as the interior cools. But previously it never faded, even in really high temps.

The only thing is that the red-MFU read out is not LCD. I would said that it's an LED display... and LED's should not be affected by 100 degree weather. To me, the underlying connector circuitry is probably worn down over time and susceptible to heat variations. If it's a big deal to you, you could probably have a dealer check it out under warranty.
