Hi everyone! I just bought a 1997 passat tdi and the radio dosent work, so im going to remove it. it is a single din am/fm Cassette that says premium sound on it. How do you remove this stereo? I removed the cover where the computer port is next to the radio and i can see a small slot on fornt of the radio. there is another slot on the oppisite side under a small pice of 1/4 trim on the right side of the radio. Do you need special tools? A friend told it is held in by screws instead and the slots did nothing. Can someone help me with this?

thanks, mike

There are two small slits in the stereo for a removal "key". You can buy one on ebay cheap, or you can go to an Office max or staples and buy a .50 cent hanging file folder pull the hangers out and cut them to the size you need. Then slide them in the slots and pull the radio out. Its a little tricky sometimes. But you should get it. I will look for pics to show you.

Cut it to look like this,on an angle

slide it into the slots. You will only have two slots and they will go up and down and not side to side like a double din radio.
