What a kick in the ass! Excellent car, but I actually like the old one more. I don’t know if it’s the DSG compared to the manual, that it’s too quiet (less exhaust noise in the cabin), or the lack of those supercool Koenig seats in this version. It just doesn’t seem as special as the old one. It’s also a little twitchy at high speeds, and steering feels softer then the GTI for some reason. It does handle corners very neutral with minimal (if any) understeer, but I was braking late to get the rear end loose and it was just sliding slightly on all four. Very controllable even taking corners at twice + the posted speed. Fun car that will easily get you into trouble, but I would probably get the GTI, chip it, springs/shocks and better front brakes then take the $7000 I have left and throw a party.

I think I need to try the HPA version to make a final decision.:D

How much is it now? $33k?

I can think of a ton more desireable cars at or below that pricerange.

Already did brother...military new car sales. No tax. I got one priced at just over 32K...just debating on biting the bullet or not. The only thing holding me back is that when I go to ship it back to the states, the military will only pay for one car to go back. So I would have to pay between 3 and 4K in one shot to send it back...

ya, i work at a VW dealership and we got our first R32 today, someone bought it a few weeks ago, so the salesmen that sold it made a bunch of notes which she posted all around the dealership making sure none of the employees took it for a test drive or anything while it was waiting to be picked up.

My old man has an '04, and his local dealership has been begging him to sell it back to them (for what he paid 3 years ago, no less!). The dealer said that just about every customer in the GTI/R32 demographic is pissed off about the new DSG-only version and would rather have the manual, so the demand for 6-speed MkIV versions is through the roof. I assume these are tuners waiting in the wings, or just that people are resistant to change in general.

This is in the Baltimore area, FWIW.

Yea, kinda what I meant about the "not as special" comment. Just the fact they would put those seats in it made it cool! As much as I like DSG, the short shifter in the old R32 combined with the seats, steering wheel and noise just made it fun.

How's the VTEC forums working out for you Paul? Make any new ricer friends?:D

I love the color; wish I could get it, but I was there for another reason...

I'm not really impressed with the body or grill. :( It doesn't look as tough as the '04 did.
The shape works for a Rabbit, NOT for a supposed hot hatch. The friggin' 306 looks better than this pile.

I like the MKIV R32's much better too...
Agreed.

Well now we know what color the parking lot at waterfest 08 will be!
