Here was yesterday's topic Dallas potholes and me...

Well, here is part two - I had the tire removed so as to further inspect the wheel and well... ouch...

Can't you bill the city for the damage? There is some kind of rule and/or law about this stuff. And since they are already filling it, they knew the hazard existed and did nothing to insure your safety.

Damn, didn't you just get those too? That really sucks.

I think some members have complained to the local authorities about stuff like that and have been reimbursed to a replacement or repair, I don't recall which.

Good luck.

Re: Dallas potholes and me... PT.2 (BigSwirv)

I have a cousin who is a police officer here in Dallas. I asked him that evening what, if any, procedure there was for this. He mentioned to me that the only way there would be a police report filed was if the pot hole itself was the cause of an accident in which someone was hurt... otherwise no dice.

However, this doesn't mean the crusade is over.

Luckily, and ironically, the Mayor of Dallas ran an a "I'll fill potholes" campaign. Also, I just happen to have her email. Further, I spent a while outside today photographing the pot hole as it was being filled (with vehicles next to it for scale). Normally I would not complain all that much about the state of these roads (I guess one resigns themselves to crappy roads) but in this case the shear size of the pothole is what has me going.

Also, when retelling my story yesterday and today, I wasn't the only one here at the office that nailed the pit. A couple of others also had damage. We'll see what happens....

lobich,

get in touch with the city's safety manager (the guy who handles traffic lights, etc). I have had good luck in two different cities by talking to this official. You will still need to file a police damage report and cite the pothole.

I think that the fact that they are now filling the hole only serves to bolster your case

You better be nice. Laura Miller (the mayor) can kick you a$$. She is tough.

She's a former reporter and I've worked in television all my adult life... I've dealt with a lot of hard nosed bulldog reporters... this should be interesting to say the least!

Now THATS what I call damage. I would still fit with the city about this. As others have said, they filled it now, and there are other people that are contesting this issue. Shouldnt be too bad of an problem to foot the bill for the replacement.

Let me guess? Did the bubba in the F150 lean into the horn and flip you off for daring to slow down and pull over to change the tire? Or was it a soccer mom by herself in a suburban?

Ok, ok, off the soap box (i've got issues)

Re: Dallas potholes and me... PT.2 (CRD99)

i got the city to pay twice for damage to my wheels from pothole. IM me if you want more information, i hope you took pics of them fixing it. if they're not done hurry and go take some pics. they paid 100% of my damages on two separate occassions

Re: Dallas potholes and me... PT.2 (lobich)

Hey Lobich,
That's why I ended up going back to 16"s the last time around. I had 17"s and went through 3 of them in four months (like I said at the last GTG). With the 16"s (although not as cool to look at) I've had no problems and I've hit some deep potholes around the Denton area since I put them on (and I do my best to try and avoid them).

Good luck. My insurance company paid for the damage (minus the deductable), but it was the inconvenience more than the money that irritated me (then again, I didn't spring for the BBS money).
