its probably the preferred position for the sunroof when fully open. if you go fullly open (the car with the air stream) it gives you more wind noise

 

i saw that, and thats what i was thinking it was...
my passangers always complain when its fully open, because it makes pressure waves of sort that hurts peoples ears

If I'm stuck in stop and go traffic downtown, I'll turn the dial to 11, but if I've got any speed at all, I have to turn it one notch before the large dot, otherwise the inside of the car pulsates until my head hurts. Not sure if VAGguy has a wagon or not, but in our wagon, opening a window only helps marginally at speed.
