I want to use an after market cd changer that will not plug directly into the oem harness. does anyone know the color codes for the conn in the trunk? I think I can just tie into the line in in the car and connect to the line out on the changer, but I can't seen to find the wiring code. The car is a 99GLS sedan 1.8T. I plan to just use the changer's controller so I don't need the head unit to controll the changer. Big thanks to anyone who can help. Oh yea, happy bleepin' tax day!!!!

Brown/pin 3 is ground
Black/pin 4 is DATA OUT
Orange/pin 2 is Clock IN
Red/pin 10 is L
Black/pin 7 is R
Green/pin 1 is DATA IN
Yellow/pin 8 is +
Purple/pin 6 is 30 power (Battery constant)
Pin 9/black and red appears to be RFI shielding for L and R signals

Use the schematic I've given at your own risk. It sounds like you have a changer that uses an FM signal, based on your comment that you're using the changer's controller. So that said, all you SHOULD need is your constant power, switched power, and ground. Good luck.....:D

yup, FM sig

Well now I don't know...Can I use the jack for the FM rf-module and use the shield for ground and the center wire for "line in".....Engines I can fix, but audio stuff is out of my brain function, so call me rapid thinking impaired. The problem is that I've used this unit in another vehicle and the rf sucked, plus I had to get to the antenna on the car's unit which can be a pain in the arse. Thanks for the wisdom

Your best bet is to sell that thing and do the job right. If I remember correctly, my cost on the VW OEM CD changer is about 250, which is not a bad price at all. ECS Tuning sells them for about 350. Other options for a plug-in deal would be a USA-Spec brand CD changer, but it's 270 from Crutchfield.
