Re: :( (LaZy4zNbOi)

Sorry to hear that. You are young though. Give yourself some time. You've plenty of time to enjoy the road! Too bad you have to do it from the passenger side for a while.

As long as no one was injured, how much more can you ask for?

Age puts things into perspective, I guess.

Re: :( (man-go)

Okay to make a story simple it was my fault. Hey anyone kno a place online to buy new hoods, sides, corners, radiator, and the front plastic cover infront of the timing belt? I think thats all the major damage. oh yea and a new grill. If i can i am gonna attempt to fix it myself! since the damn dealership's probably gonna charge me 6000 bucks or something. oh yea and i think i'll need a new bumper.

EDIT: YES THANK GOD NO ONE WAS HURT! i hit a SUV infront of me... good thing those things are high up... or my engine woulda been smashed a bit... and i woulda had a nice big airbag in my face.

quote:
why not insurance, other than higher rates?

Exactly, since your rates are going to go up anyway, since the guy you hit will go after your insurance for payment, you might as well have them fix your car.

Re: :( (torid110)

I don't exactly kno how the insurance works... Just from what my mom keeps talking about that we will end up paying for fixing the car anways. So we mind as well save money by doing it ourselves... But yea anyone kno where i can find prices on those items that i need? I want to have a est. quote in mind before i talk to the dealership/repair shop and the insurance

Re: :( (natskiboy)

Ack, Yes i do have insurance. Its just i don't kno my parents are weird... i will talk with the insurance people more and see whats the deal with getting someone to fix the car.. and DIY... i mean i don't think i got much damage.. from what i saw i just had a really fucked over front.(bumper, radiator, plastic pieces, corner lights)

Plus i can take the quote from the body shop and use that money to fix my car (hmmm if i save enough i could prolly get some upgrades too!

Re: :( (LaZy4zNbOi)

Good luck buying all of those parts at new prices. IMO, go to a junk yard and find parts.

BTW, when filing an insurance claim, you pay the deductible and the insurance pays the rest.

FYI: My car got hit while parked.

It smashed in my left front light, causing the power steering fluid canister to die and PS fluid was no longer going to PS pump. My radiator supports were cracked, replaced radiator with new one. About 30% portion of Left fender pushed in. Bumper moved to right, repainted. No damage to hood. Insurance said ok to drive it to body shop. Turns out that it was over $3K in damages.

Re: :( (LaZy4zNbOi)

dude, let the insurance take care of it. why will you do it yourself? thats why you pay insurance....

if oyur at fault then be ready to pay more premium for your next years coverage...good luck

Re: :( (LaZy4zNbOi)

Has long as everyone is ok. That's the main thing.
Imagine if someone was hurt, then you'd really have a problem.
The car could always be fixed.
Just relax and don't sweat it

Re: :( (B5sport)

Yes very good point... well yea adding up shipping and handling charges i'd hit $765.00 well i guess i'll just be keeping this stuff in mind... yea if anyone was hurt really baddly in a 30mph (then braking b4 collision) crash i don't think i'd ever want to drive again.

Re: :( (LaZy4zNbOi)

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your accident. But, DUDE! listen to what people here are telling you.

Get all of the facts before speculating.

You or your parents pay an insurance premium to have big-ticket things like this paid for--minus the pre-established deductible. No offense but if you respect your car at all don't do it half-assed and attempt this level of repair yourself. Get the car fixed the right way the first time. If your parents are like me, I have a $500 deductible. It would be ludicrous for me to even think I could fix that much damage for less than $500 by myself (unless I was an autobody guy)!

Plus if the car's not painted right, the stuff will flake, fade, and chip off soon after your done--experienced this myself!

Look at it this way, you may not drive for a while but at least when you do drive again you'll have something worth driving.

Re: :( (jonrick)

Hmmm yea I guess... I won't do a half assed job... i was gonna bring the car to my school's Auto-Shop and fix it... I don't have frame damage at least i didn't see any... so its mostly just cosmetics... painting i wouldn't do it myself i'd get a shop to do that... but yea i'll see gotta wait for the insurance people to call me back.

Re: :( (LaZy4zNbOi)

Like i everyone said, you should let the insurance take care of the repair. Your total out of pocket is going to be whatever your deductable is (usually $500 or $1000). In the end, you won't be saving anything by doing it yourself, since your insurance is going to go up anyway regardless of whether or not you claim the damage on your car. (AFAIK)

Re: :( (LaZy4zNbOi)

The product cost may very well be only around 800 clams, but consider time-equity. This is no small project, and you will find yourself pretty well consumed with the effort involved. Oh, and don;t think your out-of-pocket costs are done with the parts either. Tools, tools, tools....

Re: :( (torid110)

Hmmm okay can someone Explain to me exactly how insurance works step by step... cuz my mom is saying its like they just pay for it now... but in the end we have to slowly pay it off? I really don't get my mom she's really weird... i don't even think she knows what she's talking about...

No it doesn't work that way. You pay them your premium so in case of anything happening to your car they pay for it minus the deductable. It would suck if it works the way your mom is telling you. Keep in mind, that they will probably raise your premium due to the accident.
