C5 A6 Avant rear window problems...

last night, the daughter rolled down the passenger side rear window to clear the glass while the car was warming up. at that point, it wouldn't roll back up - at best, it would move up a couple of inches, then roll back down.

had my daughter activate the switch as I was trying to pull the window up, and got it to move a little bit, but it would eventually stop and go back in the fully down position.

anyone got any ideas on what to do about this one? I did a search, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of info here on this. I'm very familiar with B5/B6 A4 and other similar VAG products, and have replaced window regulators in the past - but it seems like the window clips aren't broken.

also, is there a DIY for pulling the door apart? I looked on Audizine, to no avail...

edit: I also cross-posted here (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/630037-rear-window-won-t-roll-up) and got the window to roll up as well as some tips.

I thought your avant was an A4? Do you have two?

Else, when the window goes up halfway/partially and then goes back down, does it "pull" the window glass back down, or does it just retract the carrier and the glass falls by gravity? Either way, it sounds like a track binding. If it is the latter, the binding way be due to a loosed fastener pin/dowel in the actuator.

If the former, then is there any visually apparent impediment to the window closing that could trip a load limiter/safety switch?

this sounds similar to the mess my regulator was in, Jay. Bring up a photo on Rockauto or ECS and see if they're similar to the B5. My guess is that you lost a roller or the crescent as I did and the cable has nothing to track on for one side of the window. I got a $75 regulator from Rock as the car is too old to justify the expense of OEM.
