Is it possible to fit this in to a B5,5 housing, hid or non-hid housing?
These comes from an Audi A6 and have the OEM Hella bi-xenon projectors for low beam with built in solenoid controls which activate on Hi beam.

Don't know if that particular mod will work. But PM user Femi.
I know he modified B5 HID's to have a bi-xenon projector, I don't remember wher he sourced the the new projectors from though.

But wouldn't it be easier to get HIDs from a wrecked W8 that already has them.

All projector housings have a metal plate on the inside. If you were to look at a projector, on the inside, you would see a plate across the bottom that kind of cuts the projector in half, sort of like this = (--) (image it’s a full circle).

So, as I understand it, the light emitted is sort of cut in half allowing only half the light to shine through.

Bi-Xenon’s (like on the B5.5’s and up) have a servo controlled metal plate that folds down to allow more light to pass through the projector, thus creating a “high beam.”

The B5 h.i.d.’s have a metal plate in there as well but it is stationary and the H7’s act as the high beams.

So, it's something along these lines, but maybe someone else will chime in with more input.

The b5.5 hid's already have the bi-xenon solinoid in them. If you have the guts of the hids out of a A6, then you should be able to retro fit into the stock halogen b5.5 projector spot, they (hid projectors) all look about the same size to me (vag ones anyway). I can open up my stock housing later tonight. the only issue would probably be tail space.

I wonder because here in Sweden (and elsewere?) B5,5's are sold with projector lights (non Hids) and if the projectors are the same size then you could fit this in.
So you all in Sweden only get the Euro B5,5 housing but with regular halogen projecotrs?

Actually Madigan, I believe the lever in the B5 HID's allows the selection in which direction the angle flares up for right hand drive or left hand drive vehicles. Otherwise if you were to install these in England and they were setup the same way we have the lever selected it would blind oncoming traffic because it angles up to illuminate the side of the road. But If you flip the lever it reverses the angle so the left hand side of the road is illuminated better.

I have a set of the A6 Bi-xeneon lights sitting in my Garage and have had them there for a while. They have two levers in them one for the bi-xenon feature and the same standard lever for changing the angle of the emission.

I got these to perform the upgrade in my standard HID lights but there is too much cutting and modifying involved that I don't wantto ruin what I currently have.

Just FYI, I've done this exact mod. I'm still working on it but it is done. Just have to take the light apart one more time for high beam alignment. It was a PITB to say the least. It works great. Now that I know exactly what has to be done I may grab another d/s headlight an do it again so there's no signs of mistakes!:)

If you need help or someone to do this let me know!!!

Well I've completed the mod to satisfaction and the lights will be up for sale. I did the mod mainly to prove that I could do it. I already had a e-code bixenon set but really wanted to do this mod. There are a couple of pins to add to the OEM harness but the way I did it makes it look completely stock, it's great. When I sell it I will give all the details.

I'm hoping to have the pics up soon. I'm working on making my own website so I'm procrastinating abit.

FWIW I used E55 bixenons in Depo housings. So the look is completely stock. I added the motors and used the Depo Ecode projector lens which gives a color variation at the cutoff line like you wouldn't believe. It's wonderful. I did take a lot of time in perfecting this but I think it was all worth it. I proved to myself that I could build them cheaper than buying the OEM kit and anyone would pass inspection in an inspection state.

I did this in B5.5 housings. The projectors were the same size. Once my camera gets the new battery then I'll take the pics. Website should be working, if not I'll use Yahoo or something else. Either way it wasn't easy but it's clean, new and can't really be noticed in an inspection. Couple of things I learned through it all. I'll have pics before selling them too.
