Airbag reset. Clear crash data.

I had side driver airbag blow off. instead of replacing the airbag I decided to follow Rustys instructions:

"Airbag resistor: 4.7 Ohm (not KOhm), 1/2 watt, 5%.
Sample part number: Fry's Electronics HWD47 - this is from Vortex, I can't verify it.

The airbag connector is the small one. On my '98 it is yellow and purple, with three wires: brown, yellow/green, and yellow/blue. The y/g and y/b are adjacent. These are the connections you want to bridge with the resistor. Secure with electrical tape (or equivalent) to insure that vibration doesn't cause intermittent faults."

I connected VAG-COM and tried to clear all the fault codes after I installed the resistor. Every intermittent codes cleared.
The only fault code that doesn't go away is:

01226 CRASH DATA STORED FOR SIDE AIRBAG DRIVER SIDE
35-00 - -

I heared that you need to do an extra step to reset the crash data. Some reset button under the hood...

Anybody has any information on this?

Please help

The "real" code is probably not stored in the ECU, but in the Airbag Module -- the ECU just repeats the message when it sees it. You'll likely need a registered vag-com to clear codes in the airbag module.

Airbag controllers need to be replaced when the airbags deploy. There is both an electrical and mechanical component to the mechanism inside the controller that tells the airbags to deploy. It cannot be reset. If you're not running any airbags (race car for example), you should remove all airbags, the controller, and the wiring.

As I said, there are both electrical and mechanical components inside the airbag controller that get "fired". How would you like your family driving around in a car that could have its airbags deploy at any time, or in the event of an accident, not deploy at all? Would you like explaining to your family that, in order to save a few bucks, you used some Chinese software that was allegedly resets the controller? For some reason, I suspect that seller would not take any legal responsibility for damages resulting from their product. Seriously, don't mess around when it comes to replacing airbags. Replace the controller with a BRAND NEW one.

if thats whats bad i agree with wolf. you should not save a few bucks on life. however i got an airbag code and it turned out the plugs under the seat were unplugged and connectors were in bad shape.

quality_sound: Yes, everything will be OK doing Rusty's trick becuase you're airbags have never actually been fired.

This situation is that the airbag HAS fired already, which AFAIK requires a replacement of the airbag module. The tool listed above, simply clears the EEPROM in the airbag controller, but as wolfsburg says the mechanical portion of the controller will still be closed and airbags will not deploy in a second accident.

If you look at the estimate after an "airbag-deployed" collision, it will always include a new airbag module.

Wolfsburg_de: Where are you at in Lansdale, I live right off Main street across from Clemens, touch base if you need anything.
