Damn i have 2001 passat 2.8 30v 5 spd 103,000 miles im a old school gear head street racer from back in the 80's
Im so tempted to add supercharger, cold air intake, and a chip but i drive for a living with commercial license if i upgrade my car i will be looking for a new line of work. Its a shame law enforcement killed street racing and will not provide a designated controlled environment in NYC for us guys who still enjoy the rush of driving 10 second street rod to the strip line up heat the tires back up to the flagman and cut it loose when his arms drop
Memories :checkered_flag:
Almost as good as sex :smoking:

From the reading I've been doing, the supercharger route is almost a joke... the pes g2 is a dinky m62 unit that tops out around like 15 psi at whatever cfm that is. Guys also seem to melt the pistons in these 2.8s at higher boost ~ 2.9 pulley or smaller, but I have a feeling its more because of amateur tuning.

I come from driving hondas and if they can pump 240 whp on a stock 1.6 liter block, why can our 2.8s only hit the same? Personally if I can get the funds, I want to run a decent sized single turbo setup with a properly tuned ecu and later on build the block and other goodies. dollar per horsepower, turbo owns superchargers any day.

Yes, keithwbloom is the man who has done some pretty cool things.
From the early days 2006 and before, ycharlies did some stuff to his car also. It was him and a few others who convinced me to put a supercharger on my '98 V6.
I drooled over his car by the way.
However, life took a hard left turn for me and things changed and that never happened.
I am currently looking at options to do a 2.7tt or a W8 swap into my '04 GLX. And after many hours of research and contemplating, I'm leaning towards the W8 route.
The 2.8 V6 is a nice motor that can handle a fair amount of power. The 2.7t block is the same block as the 2.8 but with some refinements like 4 bolt mains.
The guys down at 034 Motorsport, which I have talked quite extensively with Javad a few years ago, are some of the best guys around for Passat tuning.
If your looking for gobs of power, the hot set-up is a 2.7t block with 2.8 heads (the 2.8 heads have much larger ports) and do a single large turbo or a moderate twin turbo configuration. Javad himself has told me that 350hp to the wheels is easily attainable but will cost you big.
The other thing that is really lacking on the 2.8's are a real set refined headers.
MSDS down in Glendale, CA I think would be the best company to make a set of headers for the Passat. The last time I was in CA I talked with the guys at MSDS and they said for the 1st prototype set of headers it would be $300 per port. That's $1800 for a set headers :icon_eek:
That's just a little to steep for me at this point in time.

last i saw was around 1,800 for the supersprint too.

why run a 2.7t block when you can swap mains and pistons in a 2.8 and have the same thing with a shade more displacement and not have to machine the block to match 2.8 heads? Plus you can modify the 2.8 headers to run to a single turbo setup and then swap in the six speed... mmm this is what I've been daydreaming about for weeks now... stupid money

also, I've been lurking around on nefmoto http://nefariousmotorsports.com/forum/index.php?topic=62.0

From what I can remember the 2.7t block has other oil holes drilled into it that feed the turbo's and the 2.8 block does not have these oil holes. Also the 2.8 block is not drilled for 4 bolt mains from the factory. It can be drilled though. There was post here in this forum some time ago that showed all the differences between the two. Maybe I can find it again.
I don't know about any machining that has to get done for the 2.7t to fit the 2,8 heads.

block should be bored; diameter of the 2.7 is 81mm vs 2.8 at 82.5mm. As for oil feed, I think it wouldn't be hard to tap into. On my old honda I ran a sandwich adapter on the oil filter that fed to the turbo. I guess the mains would be the biggest pain.
