Ok . Maybe not in the Engine but more on the intake side. Its a Little looking circular piece that has a vacume hose on each side. The piece is half White/Black its litarally deteriorating I have no clue what it is. I have no pics. But if you show me a pic of that side of the engine bay ill show it to you. Thanks for all the help that ill be getting.

If you are talking about this:

...then yes, these will eventually deteriorate with all of the heat under the hood. I replaced this one and it was easy. The piece is kind of expensive though, it was something like 11.00 at the dealer. :( It's a check valve that only lets air pass one way through the line. There are 8-10 of these under the hood.

Thanks for the pictures! That's exactly the same part that I had trouble identifying and sought help with in a previous post!

Anyone have a part number for that?

Tom

I think you're looking at part 32, above - elcats lists the p/n as 058905291 for the AWM engine. IIRC, this valve helps draw air through the crankcase breather system and into the intake, for disposal.

25 is also a check valve - p/n 058905291D. I'd bet the other part is 'D' series too.

EDIT: Impex lists three parts with this number...

058905291 -- $9.65
058905291A -- $11.32
058905291D -- $11.32

no idea what the difference is...

I went by the dealer on Saturday to get this part, but I forgot what the number was. I'll post it tonight. Mine cost $13.

Interestingly enough, I popped open the hood at the dealership to make sure it was the right part, and a friggin' MOUSE jumps out from under the ECU box. I stare at him, he stares and me, then he scrambles out of the car and into the parking lot. I thought I heard a little pop noise. I hope he didn't get run over.

I am praying that the little bugger wasn't chewing on wires under the hood. It's a good idea to check under the hood every once in a while to make sure there's no stowaways in your car!

Back to the check valve. It took a while get the old one off. I had some trouble with the non-screw tie, but managed to remove the old valve without damaging the hoses. The old valve looked really bad, and had a hole on the back of its black side. Put the new one in, wrapped it in a little tin foil (is that a bad idea?) and I think the car is fine.

That hole in the old check valve couldn't be good, and without the extra weight of the mouse, I think my car is accelerating faster!

I figured it out...

The part ending in "D" is black/black and has two hose hookups opposite the manifold side, the part with no letter is black/gray and has only one hookup on each side. AFAIK, the "A" part is not on a Passat 1.8T.

The version at the airbox is the un-lettered part: 058905291

The current Impex price is way higher than what I paid Impex 3 mos. ago.
