I thought I remembered reading that the MS3 is a torque-steering nightmare. One of the things I like about the Golf R (at least in concept) is that, provided the AWD system is good, power to the pavement should be more even both in a straight line WOT run and when carving corners under throttle. And hopefully it won't plow like the B5.5.

You are getting a lot of car for the price. This is only a couple of grand more than a loaded GTI with the addition of the larger turbo (which alone just about covers the price bump if you consider what it would cost to upgrade the stock GTI K03), all wheel drive, and the number of small touches and upgrades that really add up...This car should be a beast and will whip the crap out of a MS3 on a track....

Probably, but wouldn't take it on a track and would still be $$$ up ;)

The Golf R actually has less content than the last R32. Things like rain sensing wipers are gone. No sunroof on base model but priced a touch higher. High end is virtually the same price. I'll bet the 2.0T motor is cheaper to build than aVR6.

Well my views the r32 in my opinion is better simple because of the engine more grunt although VW GTIs and such are meant to be better than other hot hatches in this area.

Now something iv been thinking since about 4 months ago or whenever the audi rs3 got announced is what idiot will buy a souped up golf for that price and double the golf, now heres some figures:

VW Golf R 2.0l turbo =================267hp ==260lb-ft ========$33990 - ÂŁ21350 US

.==. ==. ==. ==. =====================. =======. ===========$49480 - ÂŁ31115 UK

====Chipped =======================332hp ==321lb-ft ========$34600 - ÂŁ21825 US

Audi RS3 2.5l turbo ===================335hp ==332lb-ft ========$79500 - ÂŁ50000 UK

B5 VW Passat 1.9l tdi ==================110hp ==173lb-ft ========$31950 - ÂŁ20080 UK

All VWs for some reason seem to have a lower list price in America combine that with stronger pound over dollar means all VWs are much less than in europe thats why I also mentioned the country to indicate where it is at this list price. Its roughly 25-30% less for the cars in USA, Canada actually gets the same prices roughly same as britain. Now if you take the british prices on the Golf R add ÂŁ1000 to make it as powerful as RS3 and its basically the same with a 40% saving which can be used to spend on whatever differences there is but at the end the day you've got the same basic car for 60% of the Audi price.

50 grand on a souped up golf or a Ultima GTR tricky question not. Or another 23 grand and you'll have yourself a Nissan gt-r.

Thanks for reminding me about VAT. Iv actually being loving not not living in britian so much i totally forgot about the horrendous tax there.....hows that possible. But anyways that makes sense and amusing the germans are still running 19% that would make sense reduce it to something like the same if not still higher in britain. My point still remains on the whole golf r vs rs3 though, its like 90% of people who buy a bmw its all for the badge then i can just sit back and laugh when it rains and there getting wupped by a diesel which must really peeve them off.
