Well first of all, I didn't like that DIY. I chose to remove the DRL relay than ruin my brand new Euro switch by effing up the pins. Also, I no longer have fogs. The new lights use an H7 bulb for the high beams, so there is no longer any fog function. I chose to modify the high beam harness connector so the first pull activated the city lights so I can turn them on and off when I want. I also rewired the turn signals to light only when the turn directional is on. The city light now act as my "marker' lights.

If for some reason in the future I want to install aftermarket fogs, I can easily tap into the second pull and use the rear fog function power wires as power to a relay for a front fog function. I don't ever intend on wiring up a rear fog, so the second pull is currently useless.

There is no 'right way' to do this, only the way I want.
I'm not saying there's a designated way to wire it up, I'm just saying the way in the DIY is the simplest way to go about hooking up the city lights and doing it that way has the euroswitch function as it's supposed to. Again not saying this is the right way. And the pins don't get ruined, you can bend them back up no problem and they work fine.

And telling the OP the way you want it may not be the way he wants it. I'm just giving him the easiest way to do it that is simple and easy for any DIY'er to do.

i hope i can figure it out then hah. scott dont hate me cuz im popular :p but theyre coming in tomorrow!
Again, I suggest going about the DIY with hooking up your city lights. It requires the least amount of work and wiring. Worked perfect for me and I'm not very good at wiring.

be careful with a drill. I overheated my lens and it too me 45 minutes of hand sanding to get the melt out.

did the second light by hand in 30 minutes and it was good as new.

800 grit wet sand
1000 grit wet sand
1200 grit wet sand
1500 grit wet sand
car buffing compound.

done!

I know this is an older thread but...

I just installed what I thought were the lights being dicussed in this thread, but I must have bought the wrong ones.

Here is what I bought:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...I.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619&item=120651525912&viewitem=&category=33710

These use two H7 bulbs each, I bought SilverStar Ultras but I can't see anything with these installed.
Aiming them doesn't help.
The lights are so dim that tomorrow I'm going to put the stock "Old Yeller's" back in so I can drive at night.

Does anyone have a link to the correct housings that actually work and don't just look good??

HID Next

Before I return these Depot Projectors, I ordered a 4500K 35W HID kit from SharpHID to try.

I read about the group buy here, but it sounds like those are shipping from China and a few are having issues with the quality.
SharpHID has good rep and is local to me, so I can pick them up tomorrow.

My thinking is maybe these Depots can't hang with stock Halogens...

I just put those exact ones in and theyre fantastic man. Much better than my stockies, and look better as well hah. But even so, i just ordered a 6000k hid kit from DDM just for the extra brightness and street presence :D but really, im very happy with mine

But why?

@onepoint8tee, so you are running these with stock Halogen bulbs?

I can't figure why mine would be so dim and yours would be fine, I mean 12.5VDC is 12.5VDC.
(OK, it's 13.8VDC with the motor running, but still)

I'm picking up the HIDs tomorrow and that should do it.

My only thoughts are whether to go 35W or 55W, but defiantly I'm going as close to 4100 so I can to get the most light out of them and still look legal.

What did you end up doing for the DRL's?
I stuck some 168 bulbs in the small sockets, but they don't ever come on.
Not sure what's up with that, but I was more concerned with the lack of light from the lows to think about it yet..

When i put them in i didnt even have a bulb for the DRLs, but i think im gonna get an led bulb when i install the HIDs. Until then im running the stock low bulb for my highs and my buddy gave me silverstar ultras from his 2001 lexus es300 for my lows, theyre much whiter than our stocks. Tell ya what, ill take a picture right now from inside the car so you can see the output, ill edit it in, hold on.

There we are, cell phone taken, evidently my sister took my camera... rrghh. I wanted to get a pic of it down the road, but its snow covered so you cant really see anything well.

Thanks for the picture.

One of my daughters is out with the B5 now, but I'll snap a shot when she gets back.
I'll pair it up with my Altima and the M45 and snap a shot against the garage door for comparison.

(Does that dash really say 26 Deg? That's COLD!!!)

Here are the shots.

I think the Passat's lights are aimed bad Left to Right and it's clear that the lights are much whiter...maybe too much whiter.

I'm going to install the HIDs and take it to a local auto dealer and have them aimed.

(I couldn't get my camera to focus on the dash and the garage door, but if I could have it would say 58 Deg :) )

That may be, they dont look very spread out as projectors normally do. But the light intensity itself doesnt look awful to me hah. I just ordered my 6000k hid from DDM, when that gets in ill put up pics of that as well

HID kit in, DDM was VERY good, shipped monday, arrived today (wednesday). $50.14 for it shipped, thats with express 3 day fedex as well. It was only $3 more than the basic shipping :D but it looks incredible. total visibility, pics to come soon, ive been out in 23 degree weather putting it in, so im inside for now :p

A photo to compare

Here is a photo of before and after I installed the 35W 4500K HIDs.

I waited until the same time of night, but even still the HID photo looks brighter all over.
The HID's output so much more light, they light up everything so the whole picture looks brighter.
