It seems like when I first bought my 50 dollar 6000k Hid's off of Ebay it lit up the road like the sun itself! I was so delighted! I then switched my fogs to 3000ks to add even more light. Over the years it seems like the lights get dimmer and dimmer. I just switched the fogs to 5000ks thinking maybe it would light up the road again but it did not seem to help. In fact I think my trucks halogens are brighter. Is it really just ya get what ya pay for, or it they wear out over time (which makes no sense to me), are they incorrectly adjusted, my lenses are not hazy but not crystal clear but look good, Or am I just getting used to it. any enlightenment would be appreciated.

Remember, all HID's & Halogen lighting (and incadescent), as they age (in hours) become dimmer.

go get new hid bulbs for the headlights

Here are some pics I noticed that the lines on the headlight are not as sharp as others I have seen. I need to do this again on a brick wall versus a white garage.

yea i've noticed in my b5.5 passat the low beam cut off of my hids aren't too sharp, but when i'm in my girlfriends mazda3 with hid's the cutoff is super sharp. I can notice it driving around, not just against a wall/garage. Both headlights on her mazda and my passat are projectors. hmm

Not looking to hi-jack but have a question..

What are the better brands or HID kits to buy, and what ones to stay away from?

I want to do HID's in the wifes car, but know nothing about HID's. Also what is all the 6000, 8000 stuff? And are there kits for high and lkow beams and fogs?

PaJames...

PaJames: McCulloch is the best HID you can buy. VVME is a good, cheap option that is offered on Group Buy here. The 6k, 8k, etc is the burning temperature, aka brightness. How blue do you want it? 6k is about the highest I'd go. 4.5k - 5k is typically stock on most Audi, BMW, Merc, etc. There are kits made by bulb type; H1, H7, etc. H7 is usually what most Passat's have, so you'll have to check your wife's car for the bulb type and then buy the kit. HID's in high beams are not suggested, but can be done IF you have dual projectors. You NEED projector lights to run HID's.

HeyRobi: It's most likely just your eyes adjusting to the light. Remember, you switched from halogen to high intensity, and that's quite the change so it will naturally seem brighter when you first put them in. If you want to get that look again, try taking the lights apart, replacing the bulbs, seating the housing perfectly, aiming the beams, and CLEANING the housing inside and out. Hope that helps.
