Alrighty, so I had a daytime running light burn out on me today and it finally prompted me to look into HIDs. Being a noob to most car modifications/etc, I've come up with a list of questions regarding HIDs and my 2003 Passat Wagon GL.

1.) Will these guys work out on my car (I already know the size/color/wattage I need). http://www.ddmtuning.com/index.php?p=product&id=101&parent=85

2.) What do I do about my daytime running lights? Do I just leave them and let the HIDs overpower them at night?

3.) Any other recommendations on HID kits (without getting too pricey!)?

Thanks... I know this is probably a pain in the ass, but I've found so many different suggestions on HIDs that I can't seem to narrow my choices down!

Look in the groupbuy section, you can get a nice set for about $54 shipped to your door through Corradodogg. You'll need to pull relay 173 to delete your Drl's, if you don't they will take out your HID's.

Yes, the daytime running lights are just your headlights at a slightly reduced power (~85% I think). Running this restricted power to your HID's will kill them quickly, so you remove the relay to prevent this. A search would explain it more thoroughly.

I see. I'm almost positive that there's a separate bulb for daytime running lights than the low/high beams... My daytime running light still works at the moment despite the fact that my headlight (low beam) is out.

Hmm... that is odd. There is only the high beam, low beam, city lights, and blinkers up front though, maybe fogs. When your lights are switched off, it should just be your low beams at a slightly reduced power, then when you turn the switch on, the low beams come on full power and the city lights come on as well. The city lights are the small bulb in the side of the high beam reflector. I don't think there could be any way for your DRL to work, but not the low beams, unless there was some obscure issue. If you check, the projectors should be lit up for both, it's kind of hard to notice between off and on actually.

I replaced my city lights with LED's. I got some single blue led's from pep boys and put them in there. It looks real sweet when i only have my city lights on. Once the HIDs are on you can't even tell that the LEDs are there. FYI you should get a euroswitch too if you're thinking of going down this road.
