Can't connect with OBDII / OBD2

Hey...

I just got an OBD2 scanner for XMas (Innova 3030) and my car threw a CEL light today. So I figured perfect. I hooked it up, it powers up, then I turn my key on and after a few seconds, I get ERROR on the OBD2 scanner.

I checked their website and they mention that it may not connect to VW's if they have an aftermarket head unit.

For the record, I do have an aftermarket head unit.

The weird thing is that I used to borrow my neighbor's OBD2 scanner and it worked fine. I had the same head unit and I could pull and erase the codes.

Should I get a better scanner?!?

Does it work on any other car? I've been using the 3110 series and had no problems connecting to honda,ford,toyota, or VW.

Thanks. I'll have a look and see if I have this problem. The weird this was that it another model worked on my car. I'll try my scanner on the other car and see.

Also check fuse 14 and fuse 5. I believe fuse 5 has the OBD2 system on it.

OBD2 no power

I get no power to obd2 as well tried 3 readers. Not the radio. Have power to other things on fuse 5. Don't know where to go from here.

i had the same problem with my 2000 passat wagon, the problem was intermittent for me, but i noticed if i turn the aftermarket radio off, the car connects to my very cheap scanner. I dont know if its coincidence or not but you could try it anyway

i had the same problem on mine... went to the ross-tech site and followed the instructions on fixing the problem and it worked. all i did was pull the "k line" out of the aftermarket harness... obd II works

:banghead:Can you help me with this. My ABS light is on and my Brake is Flashing. I have the Innova 3130. I'm not sure where the controller is to unplug.

The controller is located on the driver side strut tower. Remove both connectors.
