dont know for b5, but for oem e-spec b5.5s, expect to pay 700 used, double that new i think... for an aftermarket kit, probably around 300.

$700 to replace the already excellent stock lights? Unless you do lots of high-speed driving on unlit roads at night, buy a chip instead.

another interesting idea would be to use LED's instead.
You can't just willy-nilly replace actual light bulbs in a headlamp with LEDs. The light pattern is crucial in headlights, and it is doubtful just willy-nilly sticking LEDs in there would work.

There is no "generic" lumens number for LEDs. It depends on the LED model and the voltage it is run at. Certainly with enough LEDs you could equal the output of a HID or conentional light bulb, however those LEDs cannot likely be arranged in a fashion that will project a beam pattern that will be both pointed at the road and NOT at oncoming drivers.
