It is mounted right next to the battery opening on the underside of my firewall cover thing. There is a wire coming off one end that is mounted and the plug I removed from it in the 2nd pic has wires inserted in it but looks as though they were cut off. Anybody seen this before? 2004 GLS 1.8TTip variant

Updated for 2020 these are junkyard pics for a better shot. 11/21/20 or 21.11.2020 for most of the rest of the world ;)

Strange...I don't have anything like that by the battery. Is this a used car?

I have something like that. I have been unable to figure it out. I put the part number in ETKA and it came up with some generic term. I forget what, but it wasnt very specific.

there should be a plug similar to that connected to the bottom of the brake reservoir.
other than that, i couldn't begin to tell you what it is. that connector is used too universally over the car. that part number you extrapolate from the piece will bring up only the generic piece, and not what exactly it connects to.

a few instances would be the foglights, the coolant sensor (on the tank) and well... this one too.

You didn't know? All Volkswagens are Hybrid ready, all you have to do is get the power plug and plug it into the nearest electrical outlet.

ha ha funny. It is a used car but not very used. A grandma had it before me. I'm the second owner. I have the cold weather package, fogs etc. Just about everything you can add to a GLS from the factory except Onstar. Oh well, thought somebody might know....

Since you posted that, I bet it has to do with the cold weather package and heating the washer fluid...

I agree that it's most likely something pertaining to the Cold weather package. Can you locate part numbers on either of the pieces or located anything in ETKA?

EDIT: Missed Bill's post about the piece coming up in ETKA as something generic. By the looks of the piece in the second picture, it looks as if it could be heated washer nozzles.

oh! thats a good bet. have someone make your washer jets shoot, and put your hand in front of the blast to see if it's warm.

i didnt think it heated up the fluid, i thought it just heated up the nozzels so that it would melt the ice off them and not block the fluid froom the windsheild, am i completely wrong here?

I have the same thing, or something very similar. It attaches to be plastic cover just under the windshield and over the battery. I've been wondering what it does too, I have to disconnect it every time I clean the filter or chip/unchip my car. I forgot to put it back once and it didn't seem to make a difference.

BTW, I have an 04 GLS 4motion with cold package.

does yours have wires coming off of both ends though? Mine doesn't as apparent in the pics. x2 on the nozzles, I thought the heated function was to keep the fluid from freezing in/on the nozzle, not like what Buick has been doing lately and heating the fluid itself.
