Window Remote control

Hello all,

I've heard about the http://www.alientech.net/ window controller but just found this http://www.autowindow.com/

The auto window has auto-venting modules and some modules with mirror control. Seems like it has more flexibility. I also see a remote starter option.

Has anyone heard of these??? I would like more info and experienses if anyone has bought these.

Thanks!

PS, they are called autowindow now but was called volkswindow before http://autowindow.tripod.com/faq.html

I've got AutoWindow on my '02 GLS and LOVE it. I love the autovent feature especially. I have weathertech ventflectors on my windows so it won't rain in while the windows are vented (since they don't necessarily roll up right away when it starts raining, just when the car cools off)

These are definitely a great addition - takes a couple of hours (or less if you are familiar with door assembly). I have the autowindow without temperature venting feature, and it works quite well. A word of caution though...

One issue I have with it is it unlocks the doors for a second when performing the vent command - as I remember anyway: I never use the vent command, because I'll generally just crack the sunroof and windows as I am arriving. If it rains, I can close everything remotely, and can roll 'em down when walking back to the car or standing by it talking to someone before rolling. I wish they had been more forthcoming about this when I bought it though - it is an issue the do not like to advertise. It is my understanding that the Alien version does not do this, but has other minor shortcomings when it comes to programming abilities. Also, autowindow waits 15 seconds to do a vent command - is the alien version like this? If it unlocked and locked as I was walking away but still close, it would be a non-issue (I am long gone in 15 seconds). Overall, it only bothers me because they didn't tell me - in reality it is not a problem for the way I use it.

BTW, if you have a sunroof, neither will let you keep it open and use the vent command (closes it as part of the process) - I spoke with programmers at both companies, so if someone's figured it out, let us know.

The autowindow is a ripoff of our design, which predated it by a couple of years. The owner tried several times to get our source code by claiming he wanted to learn how to program the type of chip we use. He tried to get our hardware design by asking if we would sell him a documented "kit" for the controller. He finally ended up simply copying our software methods and electrical interface.

The Alienwindow is designed with security and safety foremost.

Their autovent feature is designed to cause uncommanded window movement. Opening (venting) the windows unattended causes a security problem - the car is unlocked while doing so. Closing the windows automatically is a safety issue - it happens unexpectedly and without any form of pinch protection.

Alientech should be your choice!!! It also does the vent feature and is a 20 minute install!!! for Mike!
I have the Alien tech. One minor annoyance is that you have to use the auto rollup feature within a specified time period after closing the driver door. I would like the feature to roll up remotely at anytime when commanded by the remote. Is this feature available on a later version?
the turbo timer feature sounds nice on the autowindow. does alientech have something similar? i've been wanting a TT ever since i got the k04.

that's true but you can disable that or buy the Autowindow classic which works like the Allientech and does not have this feature
I like the fact that auto window has like 6 different models including the TT/RS for Turbotimer and remote start owners and features like roll up your windows when gets dark out

Also the Autowindow is a box :

while the allientech is just a circuit board.

Ps: Not trying to be an Asshole just exposing the facts , as a matter of fact I'm still deciding which one i will be buying .

I've been looking at both of these items too... I can't decide which one to go with.

The Auto Window seems to be a better price, for what you get.

Jimmy :)
So is it really that simple to install Alientech? 20 mins? it seems like it would take that long to just get the door panel off, and does something go on every door panel or just one?

Hi Mikes, Thanks for chiming in with the info.

Are you saying that AutoWindow module unlocks the door while doing the autovent? Giving a thief a chance to open the door perhaps?

Mike, does alientech have other models?
Is autovent available? If so, does it offer pinch protection?

Closing the windows automatically in the autovent mode without pinch protection, doesn't matter cuz no-one should be sticking the hands in the opening + that would be through the cars electronics (i would think) Cuz, when I have my car key turned off, and try to close my window with the door switch, it doesn't do the auto-up
Let's try to get a GROUP BUY together... I want one too.
Hey Mike, will you give us a deal on a Group Buy?

I SECOND IT!!! PLEASE MIKE!!!!
The AlienTech as the first mod I did to my Passat. Having never taken the door panels off before, this mod took me about 45 minutes to do. Learning how to get the door panel off without breaking clips, then putting it back on *CORRECTLY* (Make sure the cable running to the door handle is connected and lines up or you won't be able to open the door from the inside) took the most time.

Based on all the positive reviews of the AlienTech, I'm glad I went with it.
definitely, we should have a group on autowindow, save some $$$$$$$$$$
