So I'm fairly interested in getting some all clear/white oem tail lights, not ricey ones. Ive seen a couple on mk5s and mk4 jettas and golfs along with different colored stock tails on harlequins. Does anyone have any information on a place doing this?

I found these but they're for a B5.5. I'm looking for B5 sedan version of these.

This is the look I am going for

I've never seen that color scheme on a B5 sedan tail light. A quick search shows them for the wagon tails.

For alternative B5 sedan tails I've seen the not so attractive Spyder and Altezza. :puke:

Not a lot of options.

Smoked or darkened looks good if done right. Color Matched is another good look if done correctly. Jons Tinted Tails used to do some awesome color matching work.

I have a white car and getting white wheels so I do not want tinted or smoked tails and I definitely do not want the altezza look. I want as stock as possible. Ill have to ask some guys over on vortex if they know anyone that can custom make a set. This is the look I am shooting for.

You still want them to light up in the correct colors so you don't get tickets or smashed into by the easily confused people. (FOX News Viewers :p)

Here are examples of white color matched. The light still gets colored by the stock lens under the paint. The paint is just thick enough to create the colored outer appearance, but still thin enough to allow light through. Yes, the light output is reduced.

Meh not really a fan. To me color matching it on a white car accentuates the lines around the tail light way too much. I still want it to look like a tail light somewhat. I like the hella magic colours look more. If there's not a way to clear the OEM lens I think I am doomed. :thumbdown Thanks for the help anyways guys

Your idea about grafting the clear outer lens from an altezza tail onto an oem fixture is the only way I see. The two would need to have the exact shape/dimensions or it won't graft cleanly. Once uncovered, the insides of the fixture aren't all that pretty. You may need to paint that area or something. I have pictures of my B5 tails with the lenses removed for an LED project I did.

Taking the lenses off these tails and grafting them back on isn't as easy as headlight fixtures. With headlights, the fixture body and lens are glued together with a substance that goes soft when heated. People do a slow warming in an oven then pull them apart. With these tails the fixture and lens are permanently glued together with what appears to be a solvent style process. To separate, you need to carefully cut them apart along a seam that makes several bends, curves, corners. It took me a while of careful concentration to do mine and I'd say mine turned out about 80% quality. If I did it again, they'd be a bit better/cleaner.

If you were really up to the task; you could split a pair of b5 tail light housings and make molds of the lenses. Somehow fill the molds with plastic that has a translucent white color to it. then reassemble.

Don't ask me exactly how, but it could be a do-able.

Yeah I've done headlights before. I didn't realize tails were different. That sucks. I don't think its worth all that work for me to go thru.

Yeah I was thinking that would be the way to do it. Or somehow call Hella and beg for their lens mold or have them pour clear plastic into their mold and have them make an extremely limited set of them for me or have them do a group buy somehow haha.
